IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) is one of the oldest and largest integrated steel plants in India, located at Burnpur in West Bengal’s Paschim Bardhaman district. What is NAPS? (Simple Explanation)

NAPS stands for National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, a Government of India initiative that connects ITI-qualified candidates with companies offering apprenticeship training. Instead of applying directly to SAIL, every candidate must first register as a student on the NAPS portal, generate a registration number, and then apply for a specific company’s (“establishment’s”) open apprentice vacancy through that same portal. This recruitment is entirely routed through NAPS – candidates who apply through any other channel will not be considered, no matter how strong their ITI marks are.

How to Apply – Step by Step

• Visit the NAPS portal – nats.education.gov.in
• Register yourself as a “Student” on the portal, if you haven’t already
• Obtain your valid registration number created on the NAPS portal – this is compulsory to apply
• Log in to the NAPS home page as a candidate using your registration details
• Go to the “Apprentice Opportunity” section, then click “Find Establishment”
• Search for and select “SAIL-IISCO STEEL PLANT, Burnpur” (Establishment Code: E03171900012)
• Choose the vacancy matching your passed-out ITI trade, and apply
• Apply for only ONE trade that best fits your qualification
• Submit your application well before 7 October 2026 – don’t wait for the last day

Selection Process

• Candidates are selected purely based on the marks obtained during their ITI course, within their specified category and trade
• If two or more candidates have the same aggregate marks, the older candidate (by age) is preferred
• Besides the 200 confirmed seats, a separate waiting list of 10% of total seats is prepared in merit order – these candidates are contacted only if some selected candidates don’t join
• Selection is provisional and is subject to full verification of your original certificates and testimonials afterward

Training Duration and Important Points to Know

• Training lasts one year from the date your contract is created, and your contract ends automatically once this period is over
• This is purely a training opportunity, not a job – completing your apprenticeship does NOT create any right to claim regular employment at SAIL-ISP
• Shortlisted candidates must give a notarized undertaking confirming they will not demand employment based on this apprenticeship training or its completion
• There is no application fee mentioned in the official notification
