What Is a Local Bank Officer (LBO)? (In Simple Words)

What makes an LBO post different from a regular bank officer post? An LBO is hired specifically to work in one particular state, and must already know how to read, write, speak, and understand the local language of that state. The whole idea is to place officers who truly understand the local customers and local culture into that state’s branches — someone from Gujarat serving Gujarati-speaking customers, for example. Important: Check every detail carefully as soon as you download the call letter, and contact the Bank right away if anything looks wrong. Visiting the exam venue one day early to confirm the location is also a good idea, since latecomers will not be allowed entry.

Documents Required for the Exam Centre

Mandatory Documents:

• Printed call letter with a recent passport-size photo pasted on it (the same photo uploaded during registration)
• A photocopy of your photo ID proof, stapled to the call letter
• The same photo ID proof in original (must be currently valid)
• Aadhaar Card, for biometric authentication
• Scribe declaration form and medical certificate, if you’re a PwD candidate using a scribe

Accepted photo ID documents: PAN Card, Passport, Permanent Driving Licence, Voter ID Card, Bank Passbook with photograph, a photo ID on letterhead issued by a Gazetted Officer or People’s Representative, a valid college/university ID card, Aadhaar/E-Aadhaar with photo, or Employee ID.

Not accepted: Ration Card and Learner’s Driving Licence will NOT be accepted as valid photo ID.

Prohibited Items — Do Not Carry These

• Mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, earphones, microphones, pagers, health bands
• Any watch or wristwatch
• Calculators, log tables, scales, writing pads
• Pen drives, electronic pens, or scanners
• Printed or written material, or bits of paper

• Water bottles (only a transparent bottle is allowed)

Exam Day Instructions

• Report at the time printed on your call letter — latecomers will not be allowed in
• Carry your call letter (with photo pasted), the stapled ID photocopy, and the original ID
• Bring a ball-point pen. Rough sheets will be given and must be returned before you leave, with your Registration No., Roll No., Name, and exam date written on them
• Follow all instructions from the Test Administrator and Bank Representative — not following them can lead to disqualification
• Do not change how you look from your registration photo, since your live photo will be matched with it
• IRIS Scan: Your left eye (IRIS) will be scanned before the exam and checked again at the end. Remove contact lenses and spectacles during the scan — spectacles are preferred over contact lenses for this exam
• Biometrics: Visually impaired candidates will have their right thumb impression taken — keep your fingers clean, dry, and free of ink or mehndi
• Do not press any keyboard key once the exam starts — this will lock your exam

Selected candidates get the pay scale of a Junior Management Grade Officer: ₹48,480 – ₹85,920 per month (basic pay), plus Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and other bank allowances. Depending on deductions and posting location, the approximate in-hand salary generally works out to around ₹70,000 – ₹78,000 per month.

An LBO’s day-to-day work is genuinely varied branch banking — handling customer queries and service requests, day-to-day branch operations, loan processing support, retail/agriculture/MSME banking activities, KYC and anti-money-laundering compliance, and promoting the bank’s products and digital services. It’s a well-rounded, generalist officer role rather than a narrow, specialised desk job, with a real promotion path toward senior management grades over a career at the bank.
