The Railway Recruitment Board declared the CBT-1 result for NTPC Undergraduate (CEN 07/2025) on 24 August 2026, with individual scorecards live from 26 August 2026, 5:00 PM. What’s genuinely current and worth your attention right now: CBT-2 is scheduled for 17 September 2026 — just 11 days from today. If you’re on the shortlist, that’s not a distant date to plan around later; it’s close enough that your prep window is already running.

Where the 3,058 Posts Sit
| Post | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Commercial cum Ticket Clerk | 2,424 |
| Accounts Clerk cum Typist | 394 |
| Junior Clerk cum Typist | 163 |
| Trains Clerk | 77 |
Commercial cum Ticket Clerk alone accounts for nearly 80% of the entire vacancy pool. Worth remembering as CBT-2 approaches: your final post allotment among these four still depends on your CBT-2 rank, preference order, and zone-wise vacancy distribution — clearing CBT-2 doesn’t automatically hand you your first-choice post.
The Scale Here Is Worth Sitting With for a Moment
Over 50 lakh candidates actually sat this exam, out of roughly 63 lakh who’d registered. From that pool, 45,998 were shortlisted for CBT-2 — against 3,058 final vacancies. That’s roughly a 15-to-1 ratio between shortlisted candidates and available posts. If you’ve made this cut, take it as what it actually signals: you’ve cleared arguably the toughest filtering stage of the whole process by sheer volume, but the competition from here to an actual post allotment is still intense, not a formality. CBT-2 is where that 15x pool gets narrowed down to something close to the real vacancy count.
Why the Exam Ran Across Two Separate Windows
CBT-1 wasn’t a single date — it ran 7 to 9 May, then picked up again 13 to 20 June, across multiple shifts within those windows. This is standard for an exam of this scale (tens of millions of candidates can’t all sit in one day), but it means your raw score isn’t directly comparable to someone who sat a different shift, potentially weeks apart, with a different question set. RRB applies normalization across all these shifts specifically to correct for that — adjusting each candidate’s raw score against the difficulty of the shift they actually sat, so that a tough June shift doesn’t unfairly disadvantage someone against an easier May one. Your scorecard, once live, shows your normalized mark — that’s the number that determined your shortlisting, not your raw score on the day. If your own recollection of correct answers doesn’t match what the scorecard shows, this normalization step is very likely why, not an error.
No Sectional Cutoff — Only the Overall Score Matters
One structural detail worth flagging because it differs from several other competitive exams: CBT-1 carries no minimum requirement per section. A candidate could score comparatively weak in, say, General Awareness but strong enough elsewhere to still clear on the combined normalized total — there’s no separate bar to clear in Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, or General Awareness individually. Only the overall score against the category-wise cutoff decides shortlisting. If you’re now prepping for CBT-2 and trying to diagnose where you underperformed in CBT-1, this structure means a single weak section wasn’t necessarily what kept anyone out — it’s the combined picture that counted.
How to Check Your Result
- Go to the official website of the specific regional RRB zone you applied under — not the central RRB site generically, since results are published zone by zone.
- Look for the notice titled “Result of 1st Stage CBT for CEN 07/2025 (NTPC Undergraduate)” under Results or Latest Updates.
- Open the Result/Shortlist PDF.
- Use Ctrl+F (desktop) or your PDF viewer’s search function (mobile) to search your Roll Number directly, rather than scrolling through what can be a very long list.
- If your roll number appears, you’re provisionally shortlisted for CBT-2.
- From 26 August 2026, 5 PM onward, log in separately on the scorecard portal using your Registration Number and Date of Birth to view your individual normalized marks.
You’ll need only your Registration Number and Date of Birth to access both the result check and scorecard — no separate password reset is needed if you still have your original application credentials.
The Word “Provisional” Isn’t a Formality
RRB explicitly frames this shortlist as provisional, subject to verification of eligibility and category/document claims at a later stage. That means clearing CBT-1 and appearing on the shortlist doesn’t finalize your candidature — if a discrepancy in your claimed category, age proof, or educational qualification surfaces during later document verification, your CBT-1 clearance alone won’t protect your candidacy at that point. It’s worth having your supporting documents in order well before you’re actually called for verification, rather than assuming the CBT-1 shortlist itself settles anything permanently.
What Comes After CBT-1
The full NTPC UG selection process runs: CBT-1 → CBT-2 → Skill Test/Aptitude Test (post-specific) → Document Verification and Medical Examination. CBT-1 was purely a screening round to narrow the enormous applicant pool down to a manageable shortlist; CBT-2 is where actual merit-relevant marks begin building toward your final selection. The skill or aptitude test stage that follows is post-specific — not every one of the four posts carries an identical requirement here, so once you’re through CBT-2, check which post you’re being evaluated for and what its specific skill-test component involves.
What’s Genuinely Still Pending
- CBT-2 admit card and exam city intimation slip — not yet released as of this writing. RRB will announce these separately on the same regional websites.
- Document list for the verification/medical stage — not yet notified.
- Sectional or overall cutoff for CBT-2 — will only be known after that exam.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. My roll number is on the shortlist, but I remember getting some questions wrong that others in my shift seemed to get right too — does that affect my shortlisting?
Your shortlisting is based on your normalized score, which adjusts your raw performance against the specific shift you sat, since CBT-1 ran across multiple dates and shifts. Comparing raw impressions of performance against someone from a different shift doesn’t map directly onto normalized marks — check your actual scorecard rather than relying on shift-to-shift comparison.
Q2. I didn’t do well in one section but scored well overall — could that section alone have kept me off the shortlist?
Unlikely on its own. CBT-1 for NTPC UG doesn’t apply a separate minimum cutoff per section — only your combined, normalized overall score against the category-wise cutoff determines shortlisting.
Q3. Does being shortlisted for CBT-2 mean my selection is confirmed if I clear it?
No. The current shortlist is explicitly provisional, subject to later eligibility and document verification. Even after CBT-2, further stages — skill/aptitude test, document verification, and medical examination — stand between shortlisting and an actual post allotment.
Q4. When will the CBT-2 admit card be released?
Not yet announced as of 6 September 2026. Candidates should check their regional RRB website regularly, since it typically follows the exam city intimation slip, which also hasn’t been released yet.
Q5. Is there a difference in preparation needed across the four posts (CTC, ACT, JCT, Trains Clerk)?
CBT-2 itself is common preparation ground, but the skill/aptitude test stage that follows is post-specific. Once you clear CBT-2 and know which post you’re being considered for, check that post’s specific skill-test requirement rather than assuming a uniform format across all four.
