How Many Candidates Appeared and How Many Cleared

Out of the total candidates who registered for the Mains exam, 10,284 candidates actually appeared at the exam centres in Prayagraj and Lucknow between 29 March and 1 April 2026. Of these, 2,297 candidates have now qualified for the interview stage — which works out to a Mains success/qualifying rate of roughly 22 per cent. Against the 812 vacancies that will be filled through the written exam plus interview route, the ratio of shortlisted candidates to available posts is close to 1:2.8, which is fairly typical for a PCS-level interview shortlist.

Out of the 814 total vacancies spread across 28 categories of posts, 2 vacancies belonging to one particular post will be filled purely on the basis of the written (Mains) examination, without an interview. The result for that post is not part of the present interview list — it will be announced together with the final selection result. This is why the interview list of 2,297 candidates corresponds to only 812 of the 814 total vacancies.

Important Legal Conditions Attached to This Result

UPPSC has attached two legal conditions to this result, which candidates should read carefully:

  • Writ Petition No. 4253 of 2026: The result of the petitioner in the case Archit Shivam Mishra vs State of U.P. and others will remain subject to the final decision of the Hon’ble High Court.
  • Special Appeal No. 475 (D) of 2019: The result of female candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh will remain subject to the final judgment of the Hon’ble High Court in the special appeal filed by the State Government.

This means the overall result and these specific candidates’ status could change depending on how these court matters are finally decided.

Marks and Cut-Off Will Not Be Released Now

Candidates looking for their individual Mains marks or the category-wise cut-off will have to wait a little longer. The Commission has clearly stated that marks and cut-off details will be published only after the final selection result is declared — that is, after the interview round is completed. UPPSC has also specifically requested candidates not to file RTI (Right to Information) applications asking for marks or cut-off details at this stage, since these will be released automatically once the process is complete.

UPPSC PCS 2025 Selection Process — Where This Result Fits In

  • Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type, screening stage only)
  • Stage 2: Main Examination (Descriptive Type) — held 29 March to 1 April 2026
  • Stage 3 (Current Stage): Mains Result — 2,297 candidates declared qualified for interview
  • Stage 4: Interview / Personality Test — date and schedule to be announced separately
  • Stage 5: Document Verification of shortlisted/selected candidates
  • Stage 6: Final Selection Result, along with post allocation, marks and cut-off

What Happens Next?

  • UPPSC will issue a separate detailed advertisement explaining which posts each qualified candidate is eligible for, based on their preferences and the Mains marks (once released)
  • This detailed advertisement will also carry the arrangements for the interview / personality test, such as schedule and reporting instructions
  • Shortlisted candidates should regularly check uppsc.up.nic.in for the interview application form, document verification requirements and the interview date
  • Keep your educational certificates, category certificates, identity proof and other documents ready in advance, as these are usually required at the document verification / interview stage
  • The press note for this result has been issued by Girijesh Kumar Tyagi, Secretary, UPPSC, and the result list by Harsh Dev Pandey, Controller of Examination, UPPSC, Prayagraj

Simple Tips to Prepare for the Interview Stage

  • Go through your Detailed Application Form (DAF) carefully — interview panels often ask questions based on your hobbies, background, education and work experience mentioned in it
  • Stay updated on current affairs, especially issues related to Uttar Pradesh, along with national and international news
  • Revise the basics of your optional subject and graduation background, since questions can come from your academic field too
  • Practice mock interviews to build confidence and improve how you communicate your answers
  • Keep all your original documents and photocopies ready, neatly organised, well before the document verification/interview call

Note: These are general preparation tips. Please follow the official UPPSC advertisement for the exact interview date, venue and document requirements once released.
