What Is OSSTET? (In Simple Words)

Here is the most important thing to understand: OSSTET does not give you a job directly. It only gives you a certificate that says “you are eligible to become a teacher.” After you pass OSSTET, you can then apply when Odisha’s education department opens actual teacher job vacancies. So think of OSSTET as the first door you must pass through, not the final job itself.

The Board of Secondary Education, Odisha (BSE Odisha) is now getting ready to release the admit card on 20 September 2026, for the exam happening on 30 September 2026.

Important Dates

• Notice Released: 1 August 2026
• Online Form Started: 3 August 2026
• Last Date to Apply: 17 August 2026 (midnight)
• Admit Card Comes Out: 20 September 2026
• Exam Day: 30 September 2026
• Answer Key: Expected a few weeks after the exam
• Result: Expected after the answer key is finalised

How to Download the OSSTET Admit Card

• Go to the official website: bseodisha.ac.in
• Look for “Latest Updates” or “Notifications” on the home page
• Click the link that says “OSSTET 2026 Admit Card”
• Type in your Registration Number. You may also need your mobile number or date of birth
• Your admit card will show on the screen
• Download it and print a clear copy for exam day

Note: The exact login steps can change a little when the link goes live. Always follow the steps shown on the page at that time.

What Is Written on the Admit Card

• Your name and photo
• Your father’s name
• Roll number
• The paper you chose (Paper 1, Paper 2, or both)
• Exam date, time, and shift
• Name and address of your exam centre
• Rules to follow on exam day

Important: Check your name, photo, and exam centre the moment you download the admit card. If something is wrong, tell BSE Odisha right away. Do not wait until exam day.

What to Carry to the Exam Hall

• A printed copy of your admit card
• One original photo ID — Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID, or driving licence
• Passport-size photos, if your admit card asks for them
• A black ball point pen (do not carry gel pens or ink pens for the OMR sheet)

Rules for Exam Day

• Reach the exam centre 30 to 45 minutes early
• You cannot enter without both the admit card and your ID proof
• Mobile phones, smartwatches, and other gadgets are not allowed inside
• Fill your OMR sheet only with a black ball point pen
• Do not use whitener, blade, or eraser on the OMR sheet — this can cancel your answer sheet
• Follow any dress rules written on your own admit card

OSSTET Papers — What Do They Test?

OSSTET has two separate papers. You choose the paper that matches the kind of teacher you want to become.

Who Can Apply — Eligibility (Simple Version)

• You must be an Indian citizen
• You must be able to read and write Odia
• You should have studied Odia as a subject up to 10th class or higher, in most cases
• Final-year students of their degree/B.Ed. course can also apply, in most cycles

Pass Marks — How Much You Need to Score

The exact pass mark can be set separately for each year’s exam by BSE Odisha. In most recent OSSTET cycles, the pattern followed has been:

• General category: around 60% marks (some cycles have used a lower cut-off, closer to 45%)
• SC / ST / SEBC / PH: around 50% marks (some cycles have used a lower cut-off, closer to 35%)

Please note: The pass mark has changed a little from year to year in the past. Always check the final, official pass mark for the 2026 exam once BSE Odisha announces it, rather than relying only on old-cycle numbers.

What Happens After OSSTET?

• If you clear OSSTET, you get a certificate. This certificate proves you are eligible to be a secondary school teacher (or a PE teacher) in Odisha
• This certificate does not expire quickly and can be used whenever Odisha announces real teacher job vacancies in the future
• Passing OSSTET is not the same as getting a job. You still need to apply separately when the actual recruitment for teacher posts is announced
• Think of OSSTET like a driving test — it proves you have the basic skill, but you still need to apply for the actual job/role after

Simple Last-Minute Tips for the Exam

• Attempt every question: since there is no negative marking, do not leave any question blank
• Spend time wisely: with 150 questions in 150 minutes, that is about 1 minute per question on average — do not get stuck too long on one hard question
• Do not skip Part 4 (Child Development and Teaching Methods): it carries 50 out of 150 marks, the biggest single part, so give it proper attention while preparing
• Practice basic Odia and English even if your main subject is something else — these two language parts together are worth 40 marks
• Keep your pen and admit card ready the night before, so you are not rushing on exam morning
• Check your exam centre address today once the admit card is out, and plan your travel time with some extra buffer
