Educational Qualification

Age Limit

As per the Apprentices Act, 1961, there is no upper age limit. Only a minimum age applies, counted on the closing date of the online application:

• 14 Years (Non-Hazardous Trades): Advance Mechanic (Instruments), COPA, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Programming and Systems Administration Assistant, I&CTSM, Instrument Mechanic, Machinist, Marine Engine Fitter, Fitter, Mechanic (Central AC Plant, Industrial Cooling & Package AC), Mechanic (Embedded System & PIC), Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Mechanic Diesel, Mechanic Industrial Electronics, Mechanic Mechatronics, Mechanic MTM, Mechanic Ref & AC, Operator Advance Machine Tool, Pipe Fitter, Mason, Sheet Metal Worker, Shipwright Steel, Shipwright Wood, Crane Operator Overhead (SI), Rigger
• 18 Years (Hazardous Trades): Foundryman, Pattern Maker, TIG/MIG Welder, Welder (G&E), Welder (Pipe and Pressure Vessels), Painter (G)

Date of birth is taken from the Class 10th certificate (Class 8th marksheet for the Rigger trade, if there is no Class 10th certificate).

Physical Standards Required

• Free from Tuberculosis, contagious/infectious diseases, or any disease that could be a danger to public health
• Minimum Height: 137 cm | Minimum Weight: 25.4 kg | Minimum Chest Expansion: 3.8 cm
• Eyes should be free from any morbidity of the eye or eyelids
• Free from chronic illness of the Alimentary, Cardio-Vascular, Respiratory, Genito-Urinary, Skeletal, Nervous or Glandular systems, and free from issues in Ears, Skin and Speech

Selection Process

• Step 1 — Shortlisting: If too many applications are received, candidates are shortlisted in a ratio of 1:25 per vacancy in each trade/category, based on merit
• Step 2 — Merit Calculation for Shortlisting: Class 10th marks and ITI marks are given equal weight (50:50); for Crane Operator (SI), 100% weightage is given to Class 10th marks; for Rigger, 100% weightage is given to Class 8th marks
• Step 3 — Written Examination: Objective type, OMR-based (details below)
• Step 4 — Medical Examination: Selected candidates must submit a medical fitness certificate from a Government hospital
• Step 5 — Document Verification: Original documents are checked before joining

Written Exam Pattern

The written test is objective type (OMR-based), bilingual (English and Hindi), and follows the Class 10th syllabus for all trades except Rigger, which follows the Class 8th syllabus. Details of negative marking are not given in the notification.

How to Apply for Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Recruitment 2026

• Visit the portal — apprenticeshipregistration.com — and download the application guidelines first
• Check that you meet the qualification, age and other eligibility conditions for your chosen trade
• Keep an active personal email ID and mobile number ready — these cannot be changed once entered
• Enter your Name and Date of Birth exactly as they appear on your matriculation certificate
• Upload your photograph, signature and all required documents in the correct format and size
• Set a password during registration and remember it, since it is needed to log in again
• Review the form carefully, submit it, and take a printout for your own record (no copy needs to be sent by post)
• Download your e-admit card from the portal once it is released

Note: Candidates can apply for more than one trade in the same application. If two chosen trades fall in the same exam shift, you can appear for only one of them; if they fall in different shifts on the same day, you must attend both at your allotted centres.

Important Instructions for Candidates

• Candidates already undergoing apprenticeship elsewhere (Government/PSU/Private) must end that contract through the MSDE portal before applying here
• Do not submit multiple applications — only the latest complete application will be considered if more than one is submitted
• All candidature is provisional; giving false or incorrect information can lead to cancellation and possible legal action
• OBC candidates must submit a valid Non-Creamy Layer certificate in the prescribed Government of India format; otherwise, they will be treated as General category
• Apply well before the closing date — the organisation is not responsible for mistakes in your form or for missed communication due to a wrong email/mobile number
• Carry your admit card and a valid original photo ID to the exam centre; mobile phones and electronic gadgets are completely banned inside, even switched off
• Limited hostel facility exists for boys only (merit-based, outstation candidates preferred) — there is no hostel facility for female candidates
• Beware of touts and job racketeers — no one is authorised to take money for selection; the entire process is merit-based

Preparation Tips for the Written Exam

• Since the paper follows the Class 10th syllabus (Class 8th for Rigger), revise your school-level General Science and Mathematics NCERT/state board books thoroughly
• Give equal attention to General Knowledge — keep an eye on basic current affairs and general awareness topics as well
• Practice solving 100 objective questions within 2 hours to build speed, since time management matters in an OMR-based exam
• Practice filling a sample OMR sheet at home so you don’t waste time or make marking errors on exam day
• Keep your Class 10th and ITI mark sheets handy while filling the form, since your shortlisting depends directly on these marks
• Once the e-admit card is out, download and print it immediately and check the exam centre address and reporting time carefully
