Slip Not Opening? Common Problems and Fixes
| Problem | What to Do |
| Wrong login message | Re-check registration number and date of birth. Use the same details used in your application form |
| Page is very slow | Try early morning or late night, and avoid refreshing again and again |
| Exam city not displayed | Try another browser or device, then check again after some time |
| Link opens a different RRB site | Use the website of the RRB region where you applied |
| Still not solved | Call the helpline listed for this recruitment, 9513166371 (Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM) |
What to Do in the Next 24 Hours After Seeing Your City
- Book travel first. Train tickets for 26 or 27 October will fill quickly because many candidates are travelling at the same time
- Plan to arrive one day before if your exam city is far, and book a stay close to the city rather than close to the centre, since the centre is not known yet
- Apply for leave if you are working, and keep 2 days free in case your shift is late in the evening
- Check your Aadhaar today (see the next section). This is the step most candidates leave for the last day
- Keep your phone number and email active, because the e-call letter and notices will come there
Aadhaar Authentication — The Rule That Can Stop You at the Gate
RRB will check your identity using Aadhaar-linked biometric authentication before you enter the exam hall. Follow these points from the official notice:
- Carry your original Aadhaar card or a printout of e-verified Aadhaar
- If you have not completed Aadhaar verification, do it by logging in at rrbapply.gov.in
- Your Aadhaar must be unlocked in the UIDAI system before you go to the centre, even if you verified it while applying
- Your Aadhaar should have the correct name, date of birth (as per your Class 10 certificate), latest photograph, updated biometrics, address and father’s name
To unlock biometrics, use the official UIDAI website or the mAadhaar app. You will usually need your Aadhaar or Virtual ID number and an OTP on the mobile number linked with Aadhaar. If your linked mobile number is old or your fingerprints have changed, visit an Aadhaar centre now and not on 26 October.
Most Aadhaar checks are about data matching (name, date of birth, photograph), so a small spelling difference between Aadhaar and your application can create a problem at biometric check. Compare both today.
Exam Day Basics — Shifts, Reporting and What to Carry
| Shift | Expected Reporting Time | Expected Exam Time |
| Shift 1 | 7:30 AM | 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM |
| Shift 2 | 11:15 AM | 12:45 PM to 2:15 PM |
| Shift 3 | 3:00 PM | 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM |
- These timings follow the usual RRB pattern. The exact reporting time will be printed on your e-call letter, so follow that
- The gate usually closes 30 minutes before the exam starts, and late entry is not allowed
- Carry the original Aadhaar (or e-verified printout) and your printed e-call letter once it is released
- Also carry anything else that your e-call letter specially asks for
RRB JE 2026 Vacancy — Revised to 4,029
The original notification announced 3,993 vacancies. Corrigendum-1 added 35 CMA posts and 1 JE/Electrical post, which raised the total by 36 to 4,029. Some websites still show 3,993, which is the older number.
| Post | UR | SC | ST | OBC (NCL) | EWS | Total |
| Junior Engineer (JE) | 1,561 | 567 | 334 | 844 | 364 | 3,670 |
| Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) | 139 | 57 | 29 | 69 | 30 | 324 |
| Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) | 14 | 8 | 3 | 6 | 4 | 35 |
| Total | 1,714 | 632 | 366 | 919 | 398 | 4,029 |
Department-Wise Vacancy
| Department | Vacancies | Share of Total |
| Civil (Engineering) | 1,638 | About 41% |
| Mechanical | 1,125 | About 28% |
| Electrical | 600 | About 15% |
| Stores (DMS) | 324 | About 8% |
| Signal & Telecommunication (S&T) | 307 | About 8% |
| Chemical & Metallurgical (CMA) | 35 | About 1% |
| Total | 4,029 | 100% |
Civil and Mechanical together hold 2,763 posts, which is about 69% of all vacancies, so candidates from these two branches have the most seats to compete for. Electrical (600) and S&T (307) candidates have fewer seats to aim for.
RRB Zone-Wise Vacancy
| RRB | Vacancies | RRB | Vacancies |
| Ahmedabad | 143 | Mumbai | 411 |
| Ajmer | 252 | Muzaffarpur | 17 |
| Bengaluru | 299 | Patna | 80 |
| Bhopal | 120 | Prayagraj | 341 |
| Bhubaneswar | 86 | Ranchi | 122 |
| Bilaspur | 124 | Secunderabad | 111 |
| Chandigarh | 183 | Siliguri | 92 |
| Chennai | 377 | Thiruvananthapuram | 101 |
| Gorakhpur | 198 | Kolkata | 457 |
| Guwahati | 333 | Malda | 30 |
| Jammu-Srinagar | 152 |
Kolkata (457), Mumbai (411), Chennai (377), Prayagraj (341) and Guwahati (333) together offer 1,919 posts, about 48% of the total. Muzaffarpur (17) and Malda (30) have the fewest seats, so a candidate who applied to those RRBs should check the vacancy of their own category before setting expectations.
RRB JE CBT-1 Exam Pattern and Marking
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
| Mathematics | 30 | 30 |
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 25 | 25 |
| General Awareness | 15 | 15 |
| General Science | 30 | 30 |
| Total | 100 | 100 |
| Duration | 90 Minutes | — |
| Marking | +1 for correct, −1/3 for wrong | — |
Mathematics and General Science together carry 60 of the 100 marks, so these two subjects decide most of your score. CBT-1 syllabus is the same for every engineering branch, so branch-wise study is needed only from CBT-2.
Minimum Qualifying Marks in CBT-1
| Category | Minimum Percentage | Marks Out of 100 |
| General (UR) / EWS | 40% | 40 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 30% | 30 |
| SC | 30% | 30 |
| ST | 25% | 25 |
CBT-1 is a screening exam. Candidates are shortlisted for CBT-2 in a 15:1 ratio, which means roughly 60,000 candidates (4,029 × 15) can move ahead. Clearing the minimum marks alone is not enough, because the actual shortlisting cut off depends on how many candidates score above you.
CBT-2 at a Glance
| Part | Questions | Marks |
| General Awareness | 15 | 15 |
| Physics and Chemistry | 15 | 15 |
| Basics of Computers and Applications | 10 | 10 |
| Basics of Environment and Pollution Control | 10 | 10 |
| Technical Abilities (your branch) | 100 | 100 |
| Total | 150 | 150 |
| Duration | 120 Minutes | — |
The final merit list is made on CBT-2 marks, followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination.
Age Limit and Pay at a Glance
| Category | Age Limit (18 years minimum) |
| General / UR and EWS | 33 Years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 35 Years |
| SC / ST | 38 Years |
| PwBD (UR/EWS) | 43 Years |
| PwBD (OBC) | 46 Years |
| PwBD (SC/ST) | 48 Years |
| Pay Level 6 | ₹35,400 initial basic pay, scale ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400 with DA, HRA and TA |
RRB JE Vacancy Trend — How Big Is 2026?
| Year | CEN | Vacancies |
| 2019 | CEN 02/2018 | 14,033 |
| 2024 | CEN 03/2024 | 7,951 |
| 2025 | CEN 05/2025 | 2,585 |
| 2026 | CEN 04/2026 | 4,029 |
The 2026 vacancy count is about 56% higher than 2025 (2,585) but only about half of 2024 (7,951). This is a mid-size cycle, so competition will be strong, and a serious, well-planned CBT-1 score matters.
Smart Attempt Rule for CBT-1 With Negative Marking
Each wrong answer costs 1/3 mark. Here is what that means for guessing a four-option question:
| Situation | Expected Gain per Question |
| Pure guess (4 options left) | 0 (the gain and the loss cancel out) |
| You can remove 1 wrong option (3 left) | About +0.11 mark |
| You can remove 2 wrong options (2 left) | About +0.33 mark |
| You are sure of the answer | +1 mark |
A blind guess gives no benefit, while removing even one wrong option turns a guess into a small gain. So skip questions you cannot touch, and attempt those where you can cut down the options. Example: 62 correct and 8 wrong gives 62 − 8/3 = 59.33 marks.
9-Day Plan for 18 to 26 October 2026

Mistakes That Can Cost You the Exam
- Leaving the Aadhaar unlock check for the last day
- Taking the city slip as an admit card
- Booking return tickets too early, without knowing the shift timing
- Believing old vacancy numbers (3,993) from websites that were not updated
- Attempting every question in the last 5 minutes by blind guessing
