The Nagaland Police has released the official advertisement, dated 14 October 2026, for 1,137 Constable (General Duty) posts through an open rally.
Of these, 1,053 are regular posts filled under the tribal ratio of the 2011 Census, in line with orders of the Gauhati High Court (Kohima Bench), and 84 are backlog posts left over from the 2025 recruitment. Male and female candidates from the Indigenous Naga tribes of Nagaland can apply, and non-indigenous applicants are not eligible.
This guide is built from the official advertisement PDF. It explains the district and tribe-wise seats, the exact physical standards, the 100-mark selection scheme, the PET scoring tables, the written test pattern and the rules that decide where you can apply. It also adds a pace chart for the run, a 10-week training plan and a timeline estimate based on last year’s recruitment.

How Last Year’s Recruitment Moved — A Timeline Guide
| Step in 2025-26 Recruitment (1,176 posts) | Date |
| Advertisement | 30 September 2025 |
| Last Date to Apply | 7 November 2025 |
| Admit Card Download Start | 18 December 2025 |
| Physical/Medical Standards Test (rally) | 7 to 13 January 2026 |
| Written Test (10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon) | 20 January 2026 |
Last year the rally started about 61 days after the closing date, and the written test came one week after the rally. If the same gap repeats, the 2026 rally could fall around the end of January 2027. This is only an estimate from last year’s pattern and not an official date, but it tells you that you have about two months after applying to build your physical fitness.
Who Can Apply and Where? District and Tribe Rules
- Indigenous Naga tribes only. Non-indigenous tribes applicants shall not be eligible. You need an Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate and a Scheduled Tribe Certificate (and a Backward Tribe Certificate if you apply under that group), signed by an authority not below the rank of Additional Deputy Commissioner
- One district only. You can apply against only one district, and the PST, PET, written test and interview must all be given in that same district. Appearing in any other district means your candidature is rejected
- Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland are counted as one district. You can apply there if you are a native or resident of any of these three districts and hold a valid Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate of that district. Tribe-wise seats for this combined district are given in the table below
- Special village rules. Chang, Sumi and Phom tribe members from the recognised villages of Mokokchung district, Sumi members from recognised villages of Wokha district and Sumi members from the recognised village of Shamator district must apply only from Mokokchung, Wokha or Shamator as the case may be. Other persons of these tribes living in these districts but not from the listed villages must apply from their own native district
- Tribal ratio. Posts are given by tribe and district as per the 2011 Census. State reservation policy does not apply and reservation for persons with benchmark disability does not apply. Women’s reservation follows the government policy
- Court-case candidates. Serving constables whose appointments were set aside by the High Court and the petitioners in those cases can also apply and get age relaxation

| Zunheboto | Sumi | 91 | 72 | 19 |
| Total | 1,053 | 848 | 205 |
Mon (149), Dimapur/Chumoukedima/Niuland (129) and Mokokchung (122) are the three biggest districts and hold 400 of the 1,053 regular posts, about 38%. Women get 205 posts, which is about 19% of the regular seats. Meluri (13) has the fewest posts.
Dimapur / Chumoukedima / Niuland — Tribe-Wise Posts
| Tribe | Posts | Male | Female | Tribe | Posts | Male | Female |

| Zeliang | 03 | 02 | 01 | Total | 129 | 104 | 25 |
In this combined district, Sumi has 51 posts (about 40% of 129), Ao has 26 and Angami has 16. Eight tribes have 2 posts or fewer, so a candidate from a small tribe has a very small pool of seats and should plan carefully.

| Dimapur / Chumoukedima / Niuland | Zeliang | 03 | Nil |
| Tseminyu | Rengma | 03 | Nil |
| Total | 82 | 02 |
The total posts for each district and tribe are the tribal-ratio posts plus the backlog posts, handled in a single recruitment process.
After adding the backlog, Mokokchung rises to 170 posts (122 + 48) and becomes the biggest district, ahead of Dimapur/Chumoukedima/Niuland with 162 (129 + 33) and Mon with 149. Mokokchung Ao male candidates have 47 extra seats, so Ao male posts there are now 142 (95 + 47). Almost all backlog posts are for male candidates (82 of 84).
Eligibility Criteria — Education, Age and Documents

| Education — Backward Tribes | Class 6 pass mark sheet or higher |

Documents to Upload (Self-Attested Copies)

- Proof of identity: Aadhaar, PAN, Driving Licence or EPIC (voter card), any one

Physical Standards and Medical Rules
| Standard | Male | Female |
| Height | 5 feet 3 inches | 5 feet 0 inches |
| Chest — Normal | 31 inches | 29 inches |
| Chest — Expanded | 33 inches | 31 inches |
| Weight | Proportionate to height as per medical standards | Proportionate to height as per medical standards |
In centimetres, 5 feet 3 inches is about 160 cm and 5 feet 0 inches is about 152 cm. Some websites show 162 cm for men and mark the chest standard as not applicable for women, but the official advertisement gives 5 feet 3 inches for men and a chest standard of 29 and 31 inches for women.
Medical Tests and Disqualifying Conditions
- Doctors check height, weight, chest, eye sight, colour blindness, varicose veins, flat feet, knocked knees, squint eyes and deformities. The board can conduct a medical examination at any stage, even after you qualify in PET, written test or interview
- All candidates go through an opioid test (overall drug screening) and an alcohol abuse test. A positive result means disqualification
- Female candidates go through a pregnancy test. If positive, the selected candidate joins the next training batch and salary starts only from the date training begins
- Disqualified: distance vision worse than 6/6 in the better eye and 6/9 in the worse eye (corrected), colour blindness (partial or total), deaf or hard of hearing, varicose veins, squint eye, amputated limb, physical deformities, flat foot, knocked knees and bend elbows
- The board can re-conduct the physical standards test whenever required, and candidates who do not meet the standards can be disqualified at any stage
Selection Scheme — 100 Marks and How They Are Earned
| Stage | Marks | Nature |
| Physical/Medical Standards | — | Qualifying (screening for the next stage) |
| Outdoor Test (PET) | 45 | Must qualify in all four events |
| Written Examination | 40 | 80 MCQs, 2 hours |
| Interview | 10 | For candidates in the 1:3 list |
| NCC Certification | 05 | C = 5, B = 3, A = 2 |
| Total | 100 |
- Candidates first clear the Physical/Medical Standards test. Only those who qualify in all components are allowed to go to the outdoor test
- After PET, the board makes a merit list on PET marks and calls candidates for the written test in the ratio of 1:10 of the vacancies for each tribe and gender
- After the written test, a merit list on PET plus written marks is made, and candidates are called for the interview in the ratio of 1:3 (3 candidates for 1 post)
- The final merit list is based on the total of PET, written test and interview marks, including NCC marks
PET carries 45 of the 100 marks, which is the largest share, so physical preparation decides your result more than any other stage. With a 1:10 ratio for the written test, up to roughly 11,000 candidates can be shortlisted for 1,137 posts, and then about 3,400 reach the interview stage.
PET Details — Running, Pull-Ups, High Jump and Long Jump
You must qualify in each of the four events. Failing to meet the minimum in any one event means disqualification from the recruitment. The Board can also re-conduct the test if needed.
Running Race (20 Marks)
| Male — 3.0 Km | Marks | Female — 2.0 Km | Marks |
| Within 10 minutes 30 seconds | 20 | Within 10 minutes | 20 |

| 11:31 to 12:30 | 10 | 11:01 to 12:00 | 10 |
| Beyond 12 minutes 30 seconds | Disqualified | Beyond 12 minutes | Disqualified |
Pull-Ups (15 Marks)
| Male | Marks | Female | Marks |
| 15 times | 15 | 10 times | 15 |
| 12 times | 12 | 8 times | 12 |
| 9 times | 9 | 6 times | 9 |

High Jump (5 Marks) and Long Jump (5 Marks)
| Event | Male Standard | Female Standard | 1st Attempt | 2nd Attempt | 3rd Attempt |
| High Jump | 4 feet | 3 feet | 5 marks | 3 marks | 1 mark |
| Long Jump | 12 feet | 10 feet | 5 marks | 3 marks | 1 mark |
A maximum of three attempts is allowed in each jump. The marks depend on the attempt in which you clear the standard.
Pace Chart — What the Run Really Needs
| Run | Time | Required Pace per Km | Marks |
| Male 3 Km | 10:30 | 3:30 minutes | 20 |
| Male 3 Km | 11:30 | 3:50 minutes | 15 |
| Male 3 Km | 12:30 | 4:10 minutes | 10 (last qualifying time) |
| Female 2 Km | 10:00 | 5:00 minutes | 20 |
| Female 2 Km | 11:00 | 5:30 minutes | 15 |
| Female 2 Km | 12:00 | 6:00 minutes | 10 (last qualifying time) |
A male candidate must hold 4:10 minutes per km even to qualify and 3:30 per km for full marks, so the gap between passing and the top score is only 40 seconds per km. The lowest passing score in PET is 18 marks (10 in the run, 6 in pull-ups, 1 in each jump), but with 10 candidates shortlisted for every post, you should aim far above this minimum.
Written Test Pattern and Topics
| Feature | Details |
| Type | Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) |
| Questions and Marks | 80 questions for 40 marks (half a mark each) |
| Duration | 2 hours |
| Language | English only |
| Time per Question | About 1.5 minutes |
| Who Is Called | Candidates who qualify in Physical/Medical Standards and PET, in the 1:10 ratio |
- General Awareness and General Knowledge
- Science and Social Sciences
- Indian History and Indian Polity
- Knowledge of Elementary Mathematics
- Sports
- Naga Culture and Heritage, Nagaland State and Naga Tribes
- General Mental Aptitude tests
The paper is in English only, and about 1.5 minutes per question is enough time, so the real challenge is the range of topics and not speed. Naga culture, state and tribes questions are local and can be scored by a prepared candidate, so do not leave them for the last week.
Interview, Offer, Waiting List and Service Rules
- Interview: 10 marks. Dates and venue will be announced in local newspapers and on the Nagaland Police website
- Result as offer letter: The result declaration is treated as the offer letter. A selected candidate who does not want the job must give written non-acceptance within 10 days of the result
- Waiting list: 10% of the posts or 5 persons for each district/tribe, whichever is higher. It works only on non-acceptance, resignation, desertion or discharge, and lapses 45 days after the final result
- Probation: 2 years, followed by service confirmation on the recommendation of the Medical Board and verification of antecedents
- Deployment: Fresh recruits are first deployed in the IR Battalions, and they are liable to serve within or outside Nagaland as per orders
- Character check: Character and antecedents are verified from the concerned police station after the appointment letter
- Own expenses: Candidates attend the rally at their own cost and risk. No TA/DA or accommodation is given
- Banned items: Mobile phones and electronic gadgets are banned in the rally and exam premises, and possession leads to cancellation of candidature
