Electronics and related trades alone have 24 posts, which is 39% of all 61 vacancies and more than half (52%) of the 46 Technician-B posts. The next biggest are Heavy Vehicle Driver-A (10) and Fitter (8). Turner, Motor Vehicle Mechanic, Electroplater, Machinist and Electrician have 4 posts or fewer each, so competition per seat can be high there.
Category-Wise Vacancy
| Post Code | UR | SC | ST | OBC | EWS | Total |
| 01 | 16 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 5 | 24 |
| 02 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 8 |

| 11 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 10 |
| Total | 40 | 4 | 2 | 5 | 10 | 61 |
UR has 40 of the 61 posts (about 66%). EWS has 10 posts, which is more than SC (4) and ST (2) added together, while OBC has only 5 posts (about 8%). Both ST seats are in the electronics trade (1) and Fitter (1), and a few single-seat trades are fully open to UR candidates.
Posts for PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and backlog vacancies are also identified, and they are included within the 61 posts. Do not add them on top. Some posts are marked for MCF Hassan and the Department of Space, so check your post code’s conditions in the notification.
Which Post Fits Me? Finder by Qualification
| You Have | You Can Look at | Vacancies |
| 10th + ITI in Electronics Mechanic, Technician Power Electronic Systems, Mechanic Consumer Electronic Appliances, Instrument Mechanic or Mechanic Industrial Electronics | Code 01 | 24 |
| 10th + ITI in Fitter, Electrician, RAC, Turner, Machinist, Motor Vehicle Mechanic or Electroplater | Codes 02 to 08 (your own trade only) | 22 |
| 10th + valid light vehicle licence + 3 years’ experience | Light Vehicle Driver-A (09) and Staff Car Driver-A (10) | 5 |
| 10th + valid heavy vehicle licence + 5 years’ experience (3 as HVD) | Heavy Vehicle Driver-A (11) | 10 |
A Class 10 certificate alone is not enough for any Technician-B post. An ITI candidate can apply only for the code that matches the trade on the certificate, so check the trade name before you choose.

Application Fee and Refund — The Real Cost
| Category | You Pay | Refund if You Appear in Written Test | Final Cost |
| General, OBC, EWS and other non-exempt | ₹500 | ₹400 | ₹100 |
| Women | ₹500 | ₹500 | Nil |
| SC/ST | ₹500 | ₹500 | Nil |
| PwBD | ₹500 | ₹500 | Nil |
| Ex-Servicemen | ₹500 | ₹500 | Nil |
- Everyone pays ₹500 first, online through the Bharatkosh gateway (net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI). Payment service charges are paid by the applicant
- The refund is given only to candidates who appear in the written test, and it goes back to the original payment method. Give correct bank details for the case where this fails
An exempt candidate pays nothing in the end if she or he sits in the exam, and other candidates pay ₹100. A candidate who skips the written test loses the full ₹500, so apply only for the post code you will really attempt.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern
- Initial screening of applications on academic performance and other fixed parameters
- Written Test / CBT for the screened-in candidates
- Skill Test (a qualifying test; practical driving test for drivers) for the candidates shortlisted on the written test
- Document verification of originals and final selection on written test merit
Technician-B — Written Test and Skill Test
| Feature | Details |
| Mode | Written Test / CBT |
| Questions | 80 MCQs |
| Duration | 90 minutes |
| Marking | +1 for each correct answer, −0.33 for each wrong answer |
| Skill Test | 100 marks, qualifying only |
| Skill Test Shortlisting | 1:5, with a minimum of 10 candidates |
| Category | Written Test (Minimum) | Skill Test (Minimum) |
| Unreserved | 32 out of 80 | 50 out of 100 |
| Eligible Reserved Category | 24 out of 80 | 40 out of 100 |
Drivers — Written Test and Driving Test
| Subject | Questions |
| Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and related rules | 50 |
| Elementary English (Class 8 level) | 15 |
| Elementary Arithmetic (Class 10 level) | 15 |
| General Knowledge | 20 |
| Total | 100 |
- Duration is 120 minutes, each question is 1 mark and every wrong answer costs 0.25 mark
- To pass, you need 50% in Part A (Motor Vehicles Act) and 50% in Parts B, C and D taken together. Eligible reserved categories get up to 25% relaxation in these passing marks where the post is reserved
- The driving Skill Test has 100 marks, and you need 60 marks. No category gets any relaxation here
- Written test qualifiers are shortlisted for the Skill Test in the ratio of 1:10
- The Written Test may be held in Bengaluru or other cities in India, while the Skill Test is held in Bengaluru
| Group | Questions | Time | Seconds per Question |
| Technician-B | 80 | 90 minutes | 67.5 |
| Drivers | 100 | 120 minutes | 72 |
For drivers, half the paper (50 questions) is from the Motor Vehicles Act, and a separate 50% is needed in that part. A candidate who is strong in GK but weak in the Act can still fail, so study the Act first. The driving test needs 60%, which is higher than the 50% for Technician-B’s skill test, and no one gets relaxation in it.
Study Guide by Post
| Post | What to Study (Suggested) |
| Technician-B: Electronics Mechanic and related | Semiconductors, diodes and transistors, digital electronics, op-amps, power supplies, soldering and PCB, sensors, meters and instruments |
| Technician-B: Fitter, Turner, Machinist | Measuring tools, limits and fits, hand tools and drilling, lathe and milling operations, cutting tools and speeds, safety |
| Technician-B: Electrician | Ohm’s law, AC/DC circuits, transformers, motors, wiring, earthing, protection devices and measuring instruments |
| Technician-B: Refrigeration and Air Conditioning | Refrigeration cycle, compressors, refrigerants, evaporators and condensers, AC systems, charging and leak testing, safety |
| Technician-B: Motor Vehicle Mechanic | Engine and fuel systems, transmission, brakes and steering, electrical system and ignition, fault finding and servicing |
| Technician-B: Electroplater | Surface cleaning, plating baths and chemicals, corrosion and its prevention, plating defects and safety |
| Drivers | Licensing of drivers, registration of vehicles, traffic control and signs, insurance, offences and penalties, accident claims, plus Class 8 English, Class 10 arithmetic and GK |
The topic lists are made from the trade or post name and are not an official syllabus. For drivers, ISRO’s other notice of the same month (SDSC SHAR) lists these Motor Vehicles Act topics for the same subject, which is a good guide.
ISRO URSC vs ISRO SDSC SHAR — Can You Apply to Both?
| Point | URSC (Advt. URSC:04:2026) | SDSC SHAR (Advt. 03/2026) |
| Vacancies | 61 | 97 |
| Last Date | 13 November 2026 | 9 November 2026 |
| Technician-B Posts | 46 (8 trades) | 43 (9 trades) |
| Technician-B Written Test | 80 MCQs, 90 minutes, −0.33 | 80 MCQs, 90 minutes, −0.33 |
| Fee Paid at Apply | ₹500 | ₹500 for Technician and driver posts |
| Location | Bengaluru | Sriharikota and others |
Both notices use a similar Technician-B pattern, so one preparation covers both. A Fitter or Electrician candidate can apply to both, but each application needs a separate fee, and the SDSC SHAR deadline comes first on 9 November. Check the exam dates once announced, to avoid a clash.
