Before anything else, it’s worth being direct about what makes this recruitment unlike almost every other one you’ve probably seen: there’s no written exam and no interview. Selection runs entirely on your existing GATE score. If you don’t already hold a valid GATE score in the right paper code, this notification isn’t something you can prepare for between now and 30 September — it’s something you either already qualify for or you don’t.

The Basics

Where the 376 Posts Sit

Three disciplines, and they’re nowhere near evenly split. Computer Sciences & Information Technology alone accounts for 300 of the 376 posts — nearly 80% of the entire notification. Data Science & Artificial Intelligence carries 50, and Electronics & Communication Engineering the remaining 26.

On top of this vertical split, PwBD reservation runs horizontally — 15 posts within Computer Sciences & IT (split across locomotor disability, hard of hearing, and multiple disabilities, including a 3-post backlog), and 2 posts each in the other two disciplines. These PwBD numbers sit inside the totals above, not on top of them — they’re not additional posts.

NIC states plainly that this count is tentative and can move up or down at its sole discretion. If you’re weighing your odds specifically in Electronics & Communication or Data Science & AI, keep in mind you’re competing for a genuinely small slice — 26 and 50 posts respectively, nationwide — compared to the much larger CS & IT pool.

Eligibility — GATE Score First, Degree Second

The eligibility structure here is unusual in that the GATE requirement effectively gates everything else. For each discipline, you need both a qualifying degree and a valid GATE score in the matching paper code:

For Computer Sciences & IT, the qualifying degree is spelled out precisely: an M.Sc./MS/MCA/B.E./B.Tech. in Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics & Telecommunication, Computer Sciences, Computer and Networking Security, Software Systems, Information Technology, or Informatics — singly or in combination — alongside the GATE CS score. For the other two disciplines, the notification is less explicit about which exact degree fields qualify beyond the GATE paper code requirement, so if you’re unsure whether your specific degree title counts for EC or DA, that’s worth confirming against the full notification PDF rather than assuming.

No experience requirement exists for this post at all — the entire eligibility bar is your degree plus your GATE score, nothing else.

Age Limit — And a Category Most Applicants Skip Past

The “Service Candidate” row is worth pausing on if you already work in government — it’s a separate, wider age band than the general category equivalent, and it applies specifically to candidates already serving in Government organisations in the same line or an allied cadre relevant to this post. On top of that, there’s an additional 5-year relaxation available to such candidates, layered on top of the age limit in this table. If you’re a government employee in a related technical role and assumed the flat 30/33/35 figures were your only option, check whether the Service Candidate provision applies to you instead — it’s more generous and easy to overlook.

One clarifying detail: age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC(NCL) applies only against posts reserved for those categories, while PwBD relaxation applies regardless of reservation status, as long as the specific post is identified as suitable for PwBD candidates.

Pay

Level 6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission — Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400 per month, plus standard central government allowances (DA, HRA, and others as applicable to your posting location).

Application Fee

If you’re eligible and interested in applying for more than one discipline, you pay Rs. 800 separately for each one — this isn’t a single combined fee. Fee is online-only (credit card, debit card, net banking); demand drafts, cheques, and cash aren’t accepted, and any bank remittance charges land on you, the candidate. Once paid, it’s non-refundable regardless of outcome.

Selection Process — And the Tie-Break Rule Almost No One Expects

Selection runs purely on GATE score, and NIC builds a category-wise merit list per discipline using scores with equal weightage given to GATE 2024, GATE 2025, and GATE 2026 — you submit your single best valid score from whichever of those three years you hold.

Here’s the part that surprises candidates who assume “most recent” automatically means “best” in a tie situation: if two candidates have the identical GATE score, the one holding the older-year score ranks higher, not the more recent one. Only if the score and year are both identical does the tiebreaker move to age (older candidate ranks higher), and only after that does it fall back to percentage in the essential qualification. This is the reverse of how a lot of candidates instinctively expect recency to work in these situations, and it’s worth knowing if you’re deciding whether to submit your 2024 score or a marginally similar 2026 score — the older one carries a tie-break edge, not a disadvantage.

Also worth noting: equal weightage across three exam years means a GATE CS score from 2024 competes on completely level footing against one from 2026, with no adjustment for the fact that cutoffs, difficulty, and applicant pool size can shift meaningfully year to year. NIC isn’t normalizing across years the way some multi-shift written exams do — your raw score from whichever year you choose to submit is simply compared as-is against everyone else’s raw score from whichever year they submit.

After the merit list, shortlisted candidates go to Document Verification — held in Delhi or another location/mode NIC decides — before a provisional appointment offer. No request for a different date or location is entertained, and no TA/DA is paid for attending. Miss it without original documents in hand, and your candidature is rejected outright, regardless of your GATE rank.

Points Worth Flagging Before You Apply

The post carries All India liability — selection means you could be posted anywhere in India, or even outside India, and the notification is explicit that no query about preferred posting location will be entertained. If you’re currently working in a Central/State Government body, PSU, or autonomous organisation, you’ll need a No Objection Certificate confirming no pending disciplinary or vigilance case — arrange this early rather than at the last moment, since NOCs from government employers can take time to process.
