- Step 1 — Trade Test (Qualifying): Candidates fulfilling eligibility, as recommended by the Screening Committee, are invited for a Trade Test in the relevant Area/discipline
- Step 2 — Competitive Written Examination: Those who qualify the Trade Test appear for a written exam consisting of three papers — Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III
- Paper-I is qualifying in nature — Paper-II and Paper-III are evaluated only for candidates who cross the minimum threshold in Paper-I
- The final merit list is prepared purely on Paper-II and Paper-III performance — Paper-I marks do not count towards final ranking once a candidate clears the threshold
