UIIC AO Prelims Exam Pattern 2026

Section Questions Marks Time
English Language 30 30 20 Minutes
Reasoning 35 35 20 Minutes
Quantitative Aptitude 35 35 20 Minutes
Total 100 100 60 Minutes
  • Every section has its own timer. You cannot take time from one section and use it in another.
  • Each wrong answer costs one-fourth (0.25) mark.
  • You must clear the cut off in each section and also the overall cut off.
  • Candidates are shortlisted category-wise for the Mains exam.

Insight: In English you get about 40 seconds per question. In Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude you get only about 34 seconds per question. So solve easy questions first and leave the long ones for the last few minutes of each section.

Score of a section = Correct answers × 1 − Wrong answers × 0.25. Example: In English, if you attempt 30 questions with 26 correct and 4 wrong, your score is 26 − 1 = 25.

Selection Process – All Stages

  • Stage 1: Prelims (Tier I) – Online, qualifying only – 22 October 2026
  • Stage 2: Mains (Tier II) – Objective test plus descriptive test – 30 November 2026 (Tentative)
  • Stage 3: Interview
  • After that: Document verification and medical examination, as per the official notice

Note: Prelims marks are not added to the final merit list.

What Comes After Prelims – Quick Mains Preview

Once the Prelims is over, UIIC will release the result and shortlist candidates category-wise for the Mains exam. The Mains has an objective part and a descriptive part, and it is tentatively planned for 30 November 2026. The result date is not announced yet. Start light practice of descriptive writing, such as essay and letter, right after the Prelims, so that you have enough time before the Mains. Follow the official website and firstjob24.com for every new update.

Exam Day Plan – Step by Step

  • One day before: Visit the centre route, keep documents in one folder and sleep early.
  • Morning: Eat light, carry water if allowed and check that the photo ID is original.
  • At the centre: Reach well before the reporting time. Late entry may not be allowed.
  • In the hall: Read the on-screen instructions fully. Remember that each section closes when its timer ends.
  • After the exam: Do not discuss answers with strangers. Keep your admit card safe until the result is out.

Last 8 Days Revision Plan

Days What to Do
Day 1 to 2 Revise formulas, tables, squares, cubes and percentage-fraction values for Quantitative Aptitude
Day 3 to 4 Practise puzzles, seating arrangement, syllogism and inequality for Reasoning
Day 5 Revise grammar rules, error spotting, fill in the blanks and reading comprehension
Day 6 to 7 Attempt two full mock tests, with a strict 20-minute timer for each section
Day 8 Light revision only. Keep documents ready and rest well

Note: Days are counted from 14 October 2026. Adjust the plan to your own weak topics.

How to Use Mock Tests in the Last Days

  • Take every mock in the same style as the real exam: three sections, 20 minutes each, with no break inside a section.
  • After each mock, spend double the time on checking mistakes. Write down the topics where you lost marks.
  • Track your sectional score separately. Your aim is to clear the cut off in all three sections, not only the total.
  • Count how many wrong answers you gave. If you lose more than 2 to 3 marks in a section, reduce guessing.
  • Stop taking new mocks on the last day. Revise your notes and formulas instead.

Section-Wise Tips to Clear Sectional Cut Off

  • English: Start with fill in the blanks and error spotting because they take less time. Attempt reading comprehension last.
  • Reasoning: Do not spend more than 6 to 7 minutes on one puzzle set. Take the direct questions first.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Start with simplification, number series and data interpretation. Skip lengthy arithmetic questions if they take more than a minute.
  • All sections: Attempt only questions you are fairly sure about. A few wrong answers can pull you below the sectional cut off.
