What is FSL and What Do These Posts Do? (Simple Explanation)

FSL stands for Forensic Science Laboratory. This is the government lab in Uttar Pradesh that scientifically examines evidence from crime scenes — things like blood samples, fingerprints, chemicals, documents, and weapons — to help the police and courts solve criminal cases. A Scientific Assistant does more advanced lab and analysis work (higher pay level), while a Laboratory Assistant supports day-to-day lab operations, sample handling, and basic testing work. Both roles need a science background because the job directly involves examining physical and biological evidence using scientific methods.

This is not a brand-new, open-to-everyone application. Only candidates who already appeared in UP PET (Preliminary Eligibility Test) 2025 and hold a valid score card can apply for this exam. UPSSSC shortlists candidates category-wise, up to 15 times the number of vacancies, based on your normalized PET-2025 score (candidates who scored zero or negative marks are excluded). So the Written Exam covered in this syllabus is really the second and final selection stage — there is no separate interview after this.

The written exam has 100 objective-type questions worth 100 marks, split into three parts. Part I and Part II together make up 80 of the 100 marks, so weight your preparation time accordingly.
