What is the Spices Board and This Trainee Scheme? (Simple Explanation)

The Spices Board is a government body under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry that works to develop and promote Indian spices like cardamom, pepper, ginger and turmeric — helping farmers improve their crops and connecting Indian spices to export markets. This “Trainee (Development)” scheme is a special welfare-cum-training programme reserved only for SC and ST candidates. Selected trainees spend two years learning field-level spice development work (crop improvement, farmer support, nursery management, etc.) at the Board’s offices, while earning a stipend. Important: This is purely a training opportunity — it does not lead to a regular job or get “regularised” at any stage, no matter how well a trainee performs.

How to Apply for Spices Board Trainee Recruitment 2026

  • Visit the official application website — spicesboard.in/recruitment
  • Check that you meet the eligibility criteria (category, qualification, age) mentioned above
  • Fill in the online application form with your personal, educational and category details
  • Upload the required documents as per the given format
  • Submit the application online before 19 October 2026
  • Keep a copy/printout of the submitted application for your own record
  • Report at your allotted centre’s written test venue on the scheduled date with all original documents, at least 30 minutes early

Validity of the Rank List

The rank list prepared from this recruitment stays valid for up to one year from the date the result is published (unless a fresh notification for the same training is issued earlier). It is used only to fill a vacancy that opens up later — for example, if a selected candidate does not join on time, or if a joined trainee leaves the training (due to death or resignation) within one year of joining.

Important Instructions

  • This is a training opportunity only — under no circumstances will it be linked to or converted into a regular appointment
  • If you have already undergone Spices Board trainee training before, you are not eligible to apply again
  • Selected trainees may be posted to any office of the Spices Board within the mentioned region — not necessarily your first-choice unit office
  • If any information given by a candidate is later found to be false or incorrect, the candidature will be cancelled immediately
  • Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification
  • The Spices Board can modify, restrict, enlarge, or cancel the selection process at any time without giving a reason, and its decisions are final
  • All communication about the process will be sent only to the email address and mobile number given in the application — keep these active and check them regularly
  • Candidates must obtain their original Degree certificate within two years from the date their provisional degree certificate was issued
  • Rely only on the official website, indianspices.com, for updates — not on third-party sources

Preparation Tips for the Written/Computer Proficiency Test

  • Revise the core subjects of your degree — Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Botany, Microbiology or Biotechnology, depending on what you studied — since the test will likely check your subject knowledge relevant to spice crop development
  • Brush up on basic computer skills (MS Office, email, internet use), since the notification clearly asks for “working knowledge of computer” as part of the eligibility
  • Read up a little about the spices sector in India — major spice crops, growing regions, and basic post-harvest practices — since this is directly related to the development work trainees do
  • Organise your original certificates (degree, mark sheets, caste certificate, ID proof) well in advance, since document verification happens on the same day as the test, before the test even starts
  • Reach your test centre early, since late arrival means you will not be allowed to appear at all
