What This Recruitment Actually Is

EIL is hiring 109 experienced construction engineers and officers on a fixed-term contract, for its construction division, to work on the Dangote fertiliser projects in Nigeria and Ethiopia. This is not a regular government job and it is not an entry-level opening. Every post asks for five to fourteen years of site experience in refinery, petrochemical, fertiliser, power or nuclear plant construction.

The background is straightforward. In November 2025, Dangote Group named EIL as project management consultant and EPCM consultant for the expansion of its fertiliser complex in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Nigeria, where four new urea trains are being added. The group has also broken ground on a fertiliser plant at Gode in Ethiopia. EIL now needs site people to supervise construction on those jobs, and the notification says the requirement is urgent.

The process has two parts that many applicants confuse. First, you register online between 19 October and 2 November 2026. Second, you attend a walk-in interview at an EIL office with printed copies of your application and original documents. You cannot skip the online step and just turn up, and the notification says candidates who have not submitted the online application will not be entertained.

Today is 20 October 2026, so the online window has been open for a day and closes in about 13 days. The closing time is 2:00 PM on 2 November, not midnight, which is easy to miss.

Important Dates 2026

  • Online Application Opens: 2:00 PM, 19 October 2026
  • Online Application Closes: 2:00 PM, 2 November 2026
  • Cut-off Date for Qualification, Experience and Age: 30 September 2026
  • Walk-in Interview: Date to be sent by email to eligible candidates, at short notice
  • Interview Reporting Time: 8:00 AM
Any change, corrigendum or clarification will be published on www.engineersindia.com only. No separate press notice will be issued, so check the website before your interview.

Eligibility: Qualification, Experience and Age as on 30.09.2026

Associate Engineer Gr. II (A) BE/B.Tech/B.Sc. (Engg.) in Civil, Mechanical, Welding, NDT, Electrical or Instrumentation. Minimum 5 years of experience. Upper age 37 years.
Associate Engineer Gr. III (B) Same degree options. Minimum 9 years of experience. Upper age 41 years.
Associate Engineer Gr. IV (C) Same degree options. Minimum 13 years of experience. Upper age 45 years.
Associate Officer Gr. II (D1) Graduate in Arts, Commerce or Science with a diploma in Material Management. Minimum 14 years of experience. Upper age 37 years.
Associate Officer Gr. II (D2) Diploma in Engineering with a diploma in Material Management. Minimum 13 years of experience. Upper age 37 years.
Associate Officer Gr. II (D3) Degree in any branch of Engineering with a diploma in Material Management. Minimum 5 years of experience. Upper age 37 years.
What counts as experience: The years must be post-qualification and must be in construction-related activities of refinery, petrochemical, fertiliser, power plant or nuclear plant projects. General engineering experience in buildings, roads or manufacturing will not meet this condition.

Marks required: The notification header says minimum 60% for engineering qualifications and 55% for others. Posts A, B and C are engineering degrees, so 60% applies. D1 is a non-engineering graduate, so 55% applies. For D2 and D3 the notification does not say row by row which figure applies, so confirm on the website if you are close to the line. Round your percentage down to the whole number while filling the form, so 60.9 is entered as 60. Round CGPA down to one decimal, so 6.95 is entered as 6.9.

Welding and NDT: A candidate applying for Welding or NDT needs a B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc. (Engg.) in Mechanical Engineering with at least 60% marks, and an ASNT or ISNT Level-II certificate in RT, UT, DPT or MPT. The notification states this as a condition, not as a preference, so do not treat the certificate as optional.

Course duration: The qualification must have been completed within the prescribed minimum duration of the course.

Age Relaxation

SC / ST 5 Years
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) 3 Years
PwD (General / EWS) 10 Years
PwD (OBC-NCL) 13 Years
PwD (SC / ST) 15 Years
Ex-Servicemen Relaxable as per rules; the number of years is not given in the notification
Relaxation is added to the upper age limit of the post you apply for. For example, an OBC-NCL candidate applying for Gr. IV can be up to 48 years old on 30.09.2026.

Salary and Benefits

Designation X City / Y City / Z City (monthly, consolidated)
Associate Officer Gr. II and Associate Engineer Gr. II ₹80,000 / ₹76,000 / ₹72,000
Associate Engineer Gr. III ₹96,000 / ₹91,200 / ₹86,400
Associate Engineer Gr. IV ₹1,12,000 / ₹1,06,400 / ₹1,00,800
These figures include HRA and PF. They are consolidated amounts, not basic pay. The Y and Z figures are exactly 95% and 90% of the X figure for each grade. Taken over twelve months, the range is about ₹8.64 lakh at the lowest (Gr. II, Z city) to about ₹13.44 lakh at the highest (Gr. IV, X city). The notification does not say which cities fall in X, Y or Z.

For a foreign posting, living allowance, R&R and other allowances are paid on top as per company rules, but the notification gives no amounts. Ask about them at the interview.

Other benefits listed:

  • Reimbursement of medical insurance premium for self, up to ₹2,00,000 per annum
  • Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses for working beyond standard hours
  • Coverage under the company’s GPAI scheme as per company policy
  • Travelling allowance for official travel outside the place of posting
  • Paid leave of 2 days for each completed month, as per company policy

Terms of Engagement: Read Before You Apply

  • Hiring is on a purely fixed-term basis, initially for 2 years, extendable by 1 year if required or until the assignment ends, whichever is earlier, subject to satisfactory performance. The maximum is 3 years from the date of joining.
  • The engagement ends automatically on expiry of the period unless terminated earlier.
  • You must be ready to work anywhere in India and abroad.
  • You can join only if found medically fit.
  • Working on fixed term gives no claim to regular appointment in EIL.
  • The requirement is urgent, so selected candidates must join at the earliest.
Who this suits: Engineers with real site experience who are comfortable working abroad on a contract tied to one project. If you are looking for a permanent PSU post, this one will not become that.

Selection Process

  • Step 1, screening: On the interview day, EIL checks your application and certificates against the eligibility conditions. Only candidates who meet all of them go forward.
  • Step 2, personal interview: Eligible candidates appear for the interview. The notification does not mention a written test, a skill test or marks for the interview.
  • Venue: EIL offices at Gurugram, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. The exact date, time and venue come to your registered email.
  • Timing: Report at 8:00 AM. Interviews may run until 8:00 PM and continue to the next day if the turnout is large. Arrange your own stay.
  • Cost: You bear your own travel and stay. No allowances are paid.
Because the date can arrive on short notice, keep your documents sorted and scanned before the online window closes, and check your email and spam folder every day.

How to Prepare for the Interview

The notification does not list interview topics, so the points below are our own suggestions based on the nature of the work. Interviewers for a construction posting will mostly test what you have actually done on site.
  • Know your own CV in detail: every project, your role, the plant and its capacity, the dates, the contractor and the scope you handled. Experience certificates must show the date of joining, date of separation and nature of work, and the board can compare them with what you say.
  • Civil: foundations and piling, RCC works, structural steel erection, concrete quality control, and relevant IS codes.
  • Mechanical: erection of static equipment and columns, rotating equipment alignment, piping erection and hydro-testing, pre-commissioning.
  • Electrical and Instrumentation: cable laying and termination, earthing, testing of electrical equipment, loop checking, calibration, DCS and PLC basics.
  • Welding and NDT: welding procedures and welder qualification, RT, UT, DPT and MPT methods, acceptance criteria, relevant piping codes.
  • Material Management (Associate Officer): receipt and inspection of materials at site, storage and preservation, inventory records, issue and reconciliation, handling of surplus and scrap.
  • Fertiliser plant basics: a general idea of ammonia and urea process units will help you speak confidently about the plants you may join.
  • Working abroad: be ready to talk about safety culture, working in remote or hot climates, and living away from family. Check that your passport is valid and in good condition.

Documents to Carry for the Walk-In Interview

Bring the originals plus one set of self-attested photocopies. If you cannot show an original needed to prove eligibility, you will not be considered further.
  • 6 printed copies of your online application form with a recent colour photograph pasted on each
  • Valid Government of India photo ID: Driving Licence, PAN, Passport, Voter ID or Aadhaar
  • Proof of date of birth: Matriculation or Class X certificate, or birth certificate
  • Mark sheets and passing certificates of all semesters and years: Class X, Class XII or HSC, degree and postgraduation where applicable
  • Proof of the university’s norms for converting CGPA, OGPA or CPI to a percentage. Without it, EIL will use its own table (given below)
  • Experience certificates in original for all experience claimed, showing date of joining, date of separation and nature of work
  • If asked: offer letters, confirmation orders, pay slips, PF statements, ESI card, bank statements to support the employment
  • If currently employed: offer letter, confirmation order, pay slips, ID card, PF statement and similar proof
