Seven posts across post codes 16 to 28 are kept for Ex-Servicemen. If no suitable Ex-Servicemen are available, those posts are filled by candidates of the same vertical reservation category. For post codes 07 and 18, if no suitable PwBD (hard of hearing) candidate is found, the post is left vacant and carried forward to the next recruitment.
Adding up the reservation column, there are 37 UR, 29 OBC, 15 SC, 12 EWS and 4 ST posts, which makes 97. ST candidates have seats only in three post codes (07, 26 and 29), while OBC has the second biggest share at about 30%, driven by Fitter (8) and Electronic Mechanic (6).
Job Location — Where Will You Work?
| Location | Post Codes | Vacancies |
| SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota (only) | 07, 08, 09, 11, 13, 14, 15, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 | 49 |

| Propellant Complex Rasayani, Raigad, Maharashtra (only) | 20 | 2 |
| ADRIN, Secunderabad, Telangana (only) | 30 | 4 |
| Total | 97 |
- For post codes with two locations, you must give your order of preference while applying, and the place is decided by merit-cum-preference and the vacancies available
- Once you are placed at a location, you cannot claim another location, even against a vacancy created when another candidate does not join
- Every selected candidate can be posted in any ISRO or Department of Space centre and carries an all-India transfer liability throughout the service
- The duties include general duties as well as shift and emergency duties on a round-the-clock basis
About half of the posts (49) are only for Sriharikota, and 42 posts give you a choice between two places. Only 6 posts are fixed at Rasayani or Secunderabad, so these are the posts where you must be sure about the location before you apply.

- ISRO also gives medical facilities for self and dependants, canteen, library, free transport (in place of transport allowance), housing facility (in place of HRA), leave travel concession, group insurance and house building advance as per rules
- The posts are temporary, but they are likely to continue
Even the lowest post (MTS) starts at about ₹28,800 a month before HRA and transport, and the 44 Technician and Draughtsman posts start at about ₹34,720. Because 23 posts are in Level 7 with a starting figure of ₹71,840, graduates and diploma holders get more than double the pay of Level 3 posts.
Application Fee and Refund — What You Really Pay
| Post Codes | You Pay at Apply | Refund if You Appear in Written Test — Women / SC / ST / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen | Refund if You Appear — Other Candidates | Final Cost for Other Candidates |
| 07 to 15 | ₹750 | ₹750 (full) | ₹500 | ₹250 |
| 16 to 30 | ₹500 | ₹500 (full) | ₹400 | ₹100 |
- The fee is paid online only, and the refund is given only to candidates who actually appear in the written test
- Enter your bank account details correctly for the refund, and the department is not responsible for pending or failed transactions
- Candidates who want more than one post code must submit a separate application and pay separately for each post code
Women, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen pay nothing in the end if they sit in the exam, and other candidates pay only ₹250 or ₹100. If you skip the exam, you lose the full amount, so apply only for posts you will really attempt.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern — Post-Wise
| Post Group | Selection Stages | Written Test |
| Technical Assistant, Scientific Assistant, Library Assistant ‘A’, Technician ‘B’, Draughtsman ‘B’ | Written Test, then Skill Test (qualifying) | 80 MCQs, 90 minutes |
| Nurse ‘B’ | Written Test, then Skill Test (qualifying) | 80 MCQs, 120 minutes |
| Fireman ‘A’ | Written Test, then Physical Efficiency Test and Detailed Medical Examination | 80 MCQs, 120 minutes |
| Light and Heavy Vehicle Driver ‘A’ | Written Test, then Skill Test (qualifying) | 100 MCQs, 120 minutes |
| Multi-Tasking Staff | Written Test only | 100 MCQs, 90 minutes |
Marking Scheme and Pass Marks
| Group | Marking | Minimum Marks to Pass |
| Technical Assistant, Scientific Assistant, Library Assistant, Technician, Draughtsman | +1 correct, −0.33 wrong | Written: 32/80 (Unreserved), 24/80 (Reserved). Skill Test: 50/100 (Unreserved), 40/100 (Reserved) |
| Nurse ‘B’ and Fireman ‘A’ | +1 correct, −0.33 wrong | Not specified in the advertisement |
| Drivers | +1 correct, −0.25 wrong | Part A (Motor Vehicles Act) 50%, and Parts B, C and D together 50%. Driving skill test: minimum 60% for every category |
| Multi-Tasking Staff | +1 correct, −0.25 wrong | Unreserved/EWS 50%, OBC 45%, other reserved 40% |
- Skill test is go/no-go. For all posts, the skill test marks are not counted for selection. Only passing is needed, and the panel is made by the order of marks in the written test
- Shortlisting for skill test is category-wise in the ratio of 1:5 with a minimum of 10 candidates. Candidates are called in batches
- Tie-breaker: For Technical Assistant, Scientific Assistant, Library Assistant, Technician and Draughtsman, the first tie-breaker is the academic marks of the essential qualification, and the second is age (older candidate first). For drivers, Nurse and Fireman, academic marks of the essential qualification decide. For MTS, marks in Reasoning and Problem Solving come first, and then the older candidate is placed higher
- The written test will be online (CBT) and is designed to test both theory and practical knowledge of the prescribed curriculum
Time Per Question
| Group | Questions | Time | Seconds per Question |
| Technical Assistant, Scientific Assistant, Library Assistant, Technician, Draughtsman | 80 | 90 minutes | 67.5 |
| Nurse ‘B’ and Fireman ‘A’ | 80 | 120 minutes | 90 |
| Drivers | 100 | 120 minutes | 72 |
| Multi-Tasking Staff | 100 | 90 minutes | 54 |
MTS candidates have the least time (54 seconds per question) and also the strictest cut (50% for Unreserved), so speed practice matters most for them. For Technician and Technical Assistant posts, the −0.33 mark makes a blind guess a losing move, because three wrong answers cancel one right answer.
Fireman ‘A’ — Physical Standards and PET Details
Fireman has its own physical rules, which most websites do not list. Candidates have to submit a Preliminary Medical Examination (PME) certificate in the given format (Annexure-A) with the application. It must be issued by a government doctor not below the rank of Assistant Civil Surgeon (Allopathy), is valid for 6 months and must be valid at the time of the PET.
| Parameter | Men | Women and General Transgender | Gorkhas, Hill Tribes, SC and ST |
| Minimum Height | 165 cm | 160 cm | 155 cm |

| BMI | 18 to 28 | 18 to 28 | 18 to 28 |
| Chest on Expiration | 81 cm | 76 cm | Not applicable |

PET Qualifying Standards (Age up to 40 Years)
| Event | Men | Women and Transgender |

| Stage II: Rope Climbing (hands only) | 5 meters | 4.5 meters |

| Stage II: Long Jump (best of 3 attempts) | 3.8 meters | 3.5 meters |
| Stage II: 100 meters Run | 15 seconds | 17 seconds |
- For candidates above 40 years, easier standards apply: men 1500 m in 8 minutes and women 800 m in 5 minutes, with longer times and lower targets in the other events
- Shoes with spikes are not allowed in the runs
- Candidates must pass Stage I before Stage II, and a candidate who fails any one event is out and cannot attend the remaining events
- Shortlisting for PET is up to 1:50 against category-wise vacancies, from candidates who meet the PME norms, in order of written marks
- Candidates take part in PET at their own risk and must submit a declaration (Annexure-B), and no compensation is paid for any injury
- The Detailed Medical Examination is done after the PET, and the panel is made by written marks among those who qualify in PET and DME
Medical disqualifications include knock knee, bow legs, flat foot, any deformity of spine or limb, night blindness, colour blindness, squint, monocular vision, glaucoma, varicose veins, hernia, hydrocele, haemorrhoids, heart disease, seizure disorders, blood pressure above 140/90 with organ damage, haemoglobin below 10 gm%, random blood sugar above 180 mg/dl, and bronchial asthma or COPD, among others.
Only 2 Fireman posts exist (one SC and one ST), but PET shortlisting is up to 1:50, so up to about 50 candidates per post can be called for the run. Since both seats are reserved, a General candidate has no seat in this post and should look at the other 10th-pass posts.
Driver Posts — Written Test Syllabus

MTS Written Test — Four Parts
- Numerical and Mathematical Ability
- Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving
- General Awareness
- English Language and Comprehension
MTS has 100 questions of one mark each in 90 minutes for all parts together, and a wrong answer costs 0.25 mark. The notification does not give a part-wise split of questions.
