FMGE Exam Pattern 2026 at a Glance

Feature Details
Mode Computer Based Test
Total Questions 300 multiple choice questions
Maximum Marks 300
Number of Parts 2
Questions in Each Part 150
Duration of Each Part 2 hours 30 minutes
Total Testing Time 5 hours
Negative Marking No
Minimum Qualifying Score 150 out of 300

FMGE is a screening test for people who have a medical degree from outside India and want to practise in India. The pass mark is applied on the total score, so a weak part can be covered by a strong part.

You get exactly 60 seconds per question (150 minutes for 150 questions) in each part. Since there is no negative marking, a blank answer gives you no benefit, so you should answer every question.

Time Plan for Each 150-Minute Part

Minutes What to Do
0 to 90 Go through all 150 questions once, and answer every question you know well within 40 to 45 seconds
90 to 125 Come back to the marked questions and use elimination to pick the best answer
125 to 145 Answer every remaining question, because there is no penalty
145 to 150 Quick final check of marked and unanswered questions
  • Keep a steady pace, and do not spend more than 2 minutes on one question in the first round
  • Use the mark-for-review option for doubtful questions, and finish them in the second round
  • If your admit card shows a break between the parts, use it well: eat lightly, drink water and rest your eyes
  • Do not discuss answers of Part 1 with others, because it can disturb your focus for Part 2

The exact session timings and reporting time are printed on your admit card, so follow those timings.

Who Writes FMGE and Why It Matters

FMGE is the screening test for candidates who have completed their primary medical degree outside India and wish to practise in India. Passing it is a required step before such graduates can move on to the next stages of registration under National Medical Commission rules. The test checks the knowledge of MBBS subjects, and it has no marks for speed alone, so accuracy and calm thinking matter most.

How to Handle the Computer Screen

  • Use the first few minutes to read the on-screen instructions and check that your mouse, keyboard and screen work. Tell the staff at once if something is wrong
  • Watch the timer for each part, and remember that time lost in Part 1 cannot be added to Part 2
  • Use the question palette to see which questions are answered, marked or not visited
  • Mark doubtful questions for review, and return to them after the first round
  • Read each question fully, especially the last line, because many questions ask for the exception or the most likely answer
  • If the system hangs or the screen freezes, raise your hand and call the invigilator, and do not leave your seat

Travel and Stay Checklist for Exam Day

  • Confirm the full centre address on the admit card and note a landmark near it
  • Reach the exam city on 30 October, and stay as close to the centre as you can
  • Check the travel time at the hour you will actually travel, because morning traffic is slower
  • Keep a second printout and a phone copy of the admit card in your bag
  • Keep cash and a charged phone for the journey, but remember that the phone cannot go inside the exam hall

Take a Full Mock Today

The best use of today is one full-length practice test. Set a timer for 150 minutes, attempt 150 questions without a break, and follow the time plan given above. Then spend 45 minutes on the review. List the topics where you were unsure, and revise only those topics tomorrow.

A mock test shows you how it feels to sit for 2 hours 30 minutes in one go. Since the real exam has two such parts, knowing your own energy pattern helps you plan your pace and when to rest your eyes.

Food, Sleep and Stress — The Last 72 Hours

  • Sleep 7 to 8 hours each night, and do not stay awake to revise
  • Eat simple home-style food and avoid anything that may upset your stomach
  • Drink enough water, and carry only what the centre allows
  • If you feel nervous, take slow breaths for two minutes before you start each part

What to Carry and What to Avoid on 31 October

Carry

  • Printed FMGE October 2026 admit card
  • The prescribed original identity document, as mentioned in your admit card instructions
  • Any other document that your admit card specially asks for

Avoid

  • Mobile phones, smartwatches and other electronic devices that are prohibited
  • Any item that is restricted according to the admit card and the NBEMS instructions
  • Reaching late, because the reporting time is fixed by NBEMS

Follow every security and identity verification step at the centre. If the admit card instructions are different from this general guide, the admit card instructions are the final word.

A small mismatch between your ID and the name on the admit card is a common reason for delay at the entry point. Compare both documents once today, and fix any difference with NBEMS before the exam, not at the gate.

Your 3-Day Countdown Plan: 28 to 31 October

Date What to Do
28 October (today) Download and print the admit card, check each detail, confirm the centre address and plan how you will travel
29 October Revise your weak subjects with short notes and high-yield points. Solve one mock test in the same time limit as the exam. Pack your documents
30 October Light revision only. Reach the exam city, check the route to the centre, and sleep early
31 October Exam day. Eat a light breakfast, reach early, and follow the plan for each part

Do not start new topics in these last days. Revise what you already know, and keep your sleep regular.

Last-Day Revision Guide (Suggested)

Group Subjects to Revise Quickly
Pre-clinical Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry
Para-clinical Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine
Clinical Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Anaesthesia, Radiology

This is a general list of MBBS subject groups, and not an official weightage. Revise your own weak topics and the facts you have marked in your notes, and avoid reading new long chapters now.

After the Exam: Result and Next Steps

NBEMS will declare the result by 30 November 2026 on its official examination website. You need at least 150 out of 300 marks to qualify.

  • Check the official result notice for the declaration date and how to see your individual result
  • Keep your admit card, score card and identity documents safe, because you will need them for the next steps
  • After passing, follow the National Medical Commission and your State Medical Council rules for the next steps such as internship and registration
  • If you do not qualify, start the next attempt plan early, and review which subject groups cost you marks

The steps after the result are general guidance, and the exact rules, forms and dates are decided by the National Medical Commission and NBEMS.

Mistakes That Can Cost You the Exam

  • Taking the city intimation slip as the admit card
  • Not checking the full centre address and reaching the wrong place
  • Forgetting the original ID or carrying a different ID than the one asked for
  • Carrying prohibited items such as a phone or a smartwatch
  • Leaving questions blank, although there is no negative marking
  • Spending too long on one question and losing time for the rest
  • Trying new topics in the last 24 hours instead of revising
