What Is the CAT Admit Card? (Simple Explanation)

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is the main entrance exam for MBA and PGDM courses at the IIMs and at many other business schools. The CAT admit card (also called the hall ticket) is your entry pass for the exam. It tells you three important things: which exam centre you must go to, which slot (morning, afternoon or evening) you have been given, and what time you must report. Without a printed admit card, you will not be allowed inside the exam centre. So, think of it as the most important paper of your CAT journey after your application itself. The card will be available on the official CAT website, and you can log in only with your own User ID and password.

How to Download CAT 2026 Admit Card (From 4 November)

  • Go to the official CAT website — iimcat.ac.in
  • Open the candidate login section
  • Enter your CAT 2026 User ID (your application number)
  • Enter your registered password
  • Complete any extra verification that the portal asks for
  • Sign in to your candidate dashboard
  • Click the “Download Admit Card” link when it becomes active
  • Open the admit card and check every detail carefully
  • Save the PDF and take a clear printout for exam day

Get Ready Before 4 November (Checklist)

  • Find your login details now. Search your email for the CAT registration message and note your User ID. If you forgot your password, use the official password-recovery option today, not on the release day
  • Check that you can sign in to the CAT portal. If the login does not work, you will have time to fix it
  • Keep a printer or a nearby print shop ready. You need a clear paper copy, not just a screenshot on your phone
  • Arrange your original photo ID. The exact list of accepted IDs is in the CAT information brochure and on the admit card, so read it carefully
  • Look at your exam city on the map once the card is out, and plan your travel. Book train or bus tickets early, because many candidates travel on the same day
  • Keep a PDF copy on your phone and in your email as a backup

What to Check on Your Admit Card

According to the reference notice, the admit card shows your allotted examination centre, reporting time and test slot. A CAT admit card also usually carries your name, application number, photograph and the exam instructions. As soon as you download it, check these points:

  • Your name and application number are correct
  • Your photograph and other personal details look right
  • The exam date is 29 November 2026
  • The slot (morning, afternoon or evening) and the reporting time
  • The full address of the exam centre, so that you know exactly where to go
  • The instructions printed on the card

If anything looks wrong, contact the official CAT helpdesk quickly. Do not wait until the last week.

CAT 2026 Exam Day Instructions

  • Take a clear printout of your admit card
  • Verify your exam centre address and slot a day before the exam
  • Read the reporting time and entry instructions carefully
  • Carry your original identity proof
  • Reach the centre within the reporting period. Late entry may not be allowed
  • Follow all identity verification and security checks
  • Do not carry prohibited electronic devices into the exam area
  • Follow the instructions of the invigilators at all times

The full list of allowed and banned items is given in the CAT information brochure and on your admit card. Please follow that list.

What If the Admit Card Does Not Download?

  • First check that the release date has come. The link will not work before 4 November
  • Open the correct website, iimcat.ac.in, and avoid unofficial sites
  • Check that your User ID and password are typed correctly
  • Use the official forgot password option if needed
  • Look for the admit card link on your dashboard
  • Try an updated browser and a stable internet connection, and avoid peak hours on release day
  • Make sure the downloaded PDF has been saved properly and opens without errors
  • If the problem continues, contact the official CAT helpdesk

CAT 2026 Exam Pattern

Section Questions / Marks / Time
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) 24 Questions | 72 Marks | 40 Minutes
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) 22 Questions | 66 Marks | 40 Minutes
Quantitative Ability (QA) 22 Questions | 66 Marks | 40 Minutes
Total 68 Questions | 204 Marks | 120 Minutes
Marking scheme: +3 for every correct answer, −1 for every wrong MCQ answer, and no negative marking for TITA (Type In The Answer) questions or for unattempted questions.

The reference notice lists the three sections and their 40-minute timings. The question numbers and marks above are as reported by several education portals, which also say IIM Indore has not announced any change from last year. The final word is in the official CAT information brochure on iimcat.ac.in.

Time Per Question — A Simple Guide

Each section has its own 40-minute timer, and you cannot go back to a section after its time ends. This means that managing time inside each section is very important.

Section Average Time Per Question (40 minutes ÷ Questions)
VARC (24 questions) About 1 minute 40 seconds
DILR (22 questions) About 1 minute 50 seconds
QA (22 questions) About 1 minute 50 seconds
These are only averages. In practice, easy questions should take less time so that you can spend more time on the harder ones. Because a wrong MCQ costs 1 mark, skip a question if you cannot make progress, and move on.

4-Week Plan Before CAT 2026

  • Week 1 (now to 4 November): Fix your documents and login, then take one full mock test to find your weak section. Revise formulas and reading habits
  • Week 2: Practise sectional mocks with a strict 40-minute timer. Work on your weakest section for 90 minutes daily
  • Week 3: Take 3 to 4 full-length mocks at the same time as your CAT slot (once you know it). Study every wrong answer and note the pattern of your mistakes
  • Week 4 (last week): Do light revision only. Practise a few DILR sets and QA basics, read something every day for VARC, and sleep well. Do not start new topics

The official CAT mock test is also reported to be available on the CAT portal. Try it once, so that you are used to the real exam screen and the question palette.

Night-Before and Exam-Morning Checklist

  • Admit card printout, in a folder with your original photo ID
  • Exam centre route checked, with travel time and a little extra time for traffic
  • Phone charged, but left behind or kept as per the centre’s rules
  • Light breakfast or lunch, and a bottle of water if the centre allows it
  • Reach the centre early, with enough time for security checks
  • Keep calm. One bad section does not decide your CAT result

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Waiting until 28 November to download and print your admit card
  • Forgetting your password and having no time to recover it
  • Going to the wrong centre because you did not read the address carefully
  • Carrying only a phone screenshot of the admit card instead of a printout
  • Forgetting the original ID, or carrying an ID that is not on the accepted list
  • Trying to guess many MCQs without thinking, and losing marks to the −1 penalty
  • Trusting unofficial websites or messages that claim to give you “admit card links”. Use only iimcat.ac.in
