The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have started releasing the RRB ALP CBT 1 admit card (e-call letter) for CEN 01/2026 from 30 October 2026. The Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) first-stage Computer Based Test will be held on 3, 4 and 5 November 2026 for 11,127 vacancies. Admit cards are being issued about four days before each candidate’s own exam date, so your download date depends on your exam date.
Today is 31 October, which means the exam is only 3 days away for the first group. This guide explains the date-wise release plan, the download steps, what is printed on the card, the CBT 1 pattern after the recent change, the minimum qualifying marks in simple numbers, a 60-minute time plan and a 5-day countdown. Read it once fully and keep the checklist near you.

RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam Pattern 2026 — What Has Changed
| Feature | Details |
| Mode | Computer Based Test |
| Questions | 75 multiple choice questions |
| Maximum Marks | 75 (1 mark each) |
| Duration | 60 minutes |
| Subjects | Mathematics, Mental Ability (Reasoning) and General Science |
| Negative Marking | 1/3 mark for each wrong answer |
| Shortlisting for CBT 2 | 15 times the vacancies of each RRB |
| Marks in Final Merit | CBT 1 marks are not counted |
| Time per Question | 48 seconds |
In this cycle the CBT 1 paper has only three subjects, and General Awareness is no longer a part of it. The notification gives the total of 75 questions and the three subject areas, but it does not fix how many questions come from each subject. Marks are normalised when the exam is held in several shifts.
With no General Awareness section, there is no easy 10-mark section to gain from. The whole paper rests on Mathematics, Reasoning and Science at about 48 seconds a question, so speed with accuracy is the entire game. Since CBT 1 is only a screening round and its marks are not carried forward, your aim is simply to clear the cut-off safely.
Qualifying Marks in Simple Numbers
| Category | Minimum Percentage | Marks Out of 75 |
| UR and EWS | 40% | 30 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and SC | 30% | 22.5 |
| ST | 25% | 18.75 |
These are the minimum qualifying marks. Because 15 times the vacancies are shortlisted for CBT 2, the real cut-off is decided by how many candidates score above you in your RRB and category. So aim well above the minimum.
If all of the reported 8.4 lakh registered candidates appear, about 1.67 lakh candidates (15 times 11,127) will go ahead, which is roughly one in five. This number of registered candidates comes from one education portal, so use it only as a rough idea of the competition.
60-Minute Attempt Plan With Negative Marking
| Minutes | What to Do |
| 0 to 25 | Start with the subject in which you are strongest. Solve the easy and medium questions first |
| 25 to 45 | Move to the next subject. Skip the long calculations and come back later |
| 45 to 55 | Attempt the third subject and the questions you marked |
| 55 to 60 | Final check. Do not change an answer unless you are sure |
| Attempted | Correct | Wrong | Net Marks |
| 60 | 50 | 10 | 46.67 |
| 65 | 52 | 13 | 47.67 |
| 70 | 55 | 15 | 50.00 |
| 75 | 55 | 20 | 48.33 |
A wrong answer costs one third of a mark, so three wrong answers cancel one right answer. Notice that 70 attempted with 55 correct (50 net marks) beats 75 attempted with 55 correct (48.33), because the extra five attempts were all wrong. Attempt a question when you can remove at least one option.
Quick Revision List for the Last Days (Suggested)
| Subject | Topics to Revise Quickly |
| Mathematics | Percentage, ratio, average, profit and loss, time and work, speed and distance, simple and compound interest, number system, mensuration, basic algebra and geometry |
| Mental Ability (Reasoning) | Analogy, series, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, syllogism, classification, ranking and simple puzzles |
| General Science | Class 10 level Physics (motion, force, work, energy, electricity, light), Chemistry (acids, bases, metals, carbon compounds) and Biology (life processes, human body, diseases) |
This list is made from the subject names and is not an official syllabus. In the last days, revise short notes and formulas, and take timed mock tests with the same 75 questions in 60 minutes.
5-Day Countdown: 31 October to 5 November
| Date | What to Do |
| 31 October (today) | Download your admit card if it is available, or check again later. Compare name and details with your ID. Book travel and stay if not done |
| 1 November | One full mock test of 75 questions in 60 minutes. Review the wrong answers by subject |
| 2 November | Light revision of formulas and science facts. Pack your documents in one folder. Travel to the exam city |
| 3 November | First exam day. Reach the centre well before the reporting time |
| 4 and 5 November | Exam days for the next groups. Same checklist |
Do not start new topics now. Keep your sleep regular and eat light food on the exam day.
Recruitment Snapshot — Who Is Competing

| Application Period | 15 May to 14 June 2026 |
| Qualification | 10th pass with ITI in the relevant trade, or 10th with Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics Engineering |
| Age Limit | 18 to 30 years as on 1 July 2026, with relaxation as per rules |

The category figures add up exactly to the 11,127 posts. UR has about 44% of the vacancies, OBC about 23%, SC about 16%, EWS about 9% and ST about 8%. The posts are spread over all 21 RRBs, so the real competition is inside your own RRB and category.
Travelling to the Exam City — Simple Tips
- Reach the exam city one day early, and stay as close to the centre as you can, using the address printed on the admit card
- Do a trial trip to the centre if possible, at the same hour you will travel on the exam day
- Keep two printouts of the admit card and one copy on your phone, and put the original ID in the same folder
- Book your return journey only after you know your shift time
- Carry water and a light snack for the journey, but remember that you cannot take electronic gadgets inside
Documents and Rules for the Exam Day
- A clear printout of the RRB ALP CBT 1 admit card
- An original, valid photo ID: Aadhaar, PAN card, Voter ID, Passport or Driving Licence
- No mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators, Bluetooth devices or any other electronic gadgets
- Follow the seating arrangement given on the admit card, and obey the staff at the centre
- Reach much before the reporting time, because the gate closes at the time printed on the card
Biometric or Aadhaar-based identity checks are used in several recent RRB exams, and the RRB JE CBT 1 of CEN 04/2026 is one example. The ALP notice that I could see does not list this step, so read the instructions on your own admit card and carry your original Aadhaar, along with your chosen photo ID, to be safe.
After CBT 1: The Next Stages
| Stage | Details |
| CBT 2 | 175 questions: Part A (100 marks) decides merit and Part B (75 marks) is a trade test that is only qualifying. Duration 150 minutes |
| CBAT (Aptitude Test) | Qualifying test with a minimum T-score of 42 in each test, and no negative marking |
| Final Merit | Reported as 50% from CBT 2 Part A and 50% from CBAT |
| Document Verification and Medical Examination | For shortlisted candidates |
These later-stage details are taken from published summaries of the CEN 01/2026 scheme, so confirm them in the official notice when the time comes.
Mistakes That Can Cost You the Exam
- Not checking the release date for your own exam date and thinking the card is not released
- Using the city slip as an admit card
- Carrying a photocopy of ID instead of the original
- Reaching the centre after the gate-closing time
- Carrying gadgets that are not allowed
- Attempting all questions by blind guessing in the last minutes
- Starting new topics in the last 48 hours instead of revising
