TNPSC has said only that it’ll be announced separately on tnpsc.gov.in — so don’t go looking for a fixed date anywhere else, including on this page.
Why “170 Vacancies” Undersells How Different This Recruitment Is
Most TNPSC drives that people casually search for are Group exams — CCSE, VAO, and the like — where one written test qualifies you for a fairly standard entry-level government post. CTSE Interview Posts isn’t that kind of recruitment. It’s 31 separate, mostly senior-level technical and professional posts bundled into one notification, and a good chunk of them explicitly require 5, 7, even 20 years of prior experience. If you’re a fresh graduate browsing this hoping for an entry point into Tamil Nadu government service, roughly half the post list simply isn’t built for you — and the other half might be, depending on your specific degree and field.

Where the 170 Actually Sit
One post absolutely dominates this list. Veterinary Assistant Surgeon carries 79 of the 170 posts — nearly half the entire notification — under the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services department, requiring a B.V.Sc. and veterinary practitioner registration. Everything else on the list is far thinner: Senior Entomologist (13), English Reporter (6), District Library Officer (6), Assistant Manager under SIPCOT (6), and most of the remaining 27 posts sitting at 1 to 5 vacancies each.
That lopsided distribution matters for how you should read your own odds. Applying against 79 open Veterinary Assistant Surgeon slots is a very different competitive picture than applying for the single Bursar post under Collegiate Education, or the lone System Analyst slot under Adi Dravidar Welfare.
Several posts also carry a “backlog only” or “shortfall only” tag — Unit Head-DGM Cadre at Tamil Nadu Cements, for instance, and English Reporter’s count includes a shortfall component. These aren’t fresh openings in the ordinary sense; they exist specifically to fill previously unfilled reserved-category seats, which affects who’s actually eligible to compete for them.
The Qualification Spread Is the Real Story Here
Scan the post list and you’ll find a Chartered Accountant role (Manager, Accounts — Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu), a Master’s-in-Psychology role (Psychologist, Prisons Department), a nautical qualification role that needs a Certificate of Competency as Master of a foreign-going vessel (Port Officer), and a traditional-architecture degree paired with 10 years of temple renovation experience (Regional Sthapathi, HR&CE Department). These have almost nothing in common except that TNPSC happens to be conducting the exam for all of them at once.
The experience bar on several posts is genuinely steep. Unit Head-DGM Cadre at Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation asks for 20 years in a one-million-tonne cement plant, including 5 years in a senior position — that’s not a post a career-starter reads eligibility for and applies anyway hoping for the best. Deputy Manager (Instrumental) and Deputy Manager (Safety) both need 10 years in the specific cement-plant context. The three Assistant General Manager (Projects) roles at TIDCO each need 7 years of relevant project, infrastructure, or investment-analysis experience on top of an MBA or equivalent professional qualification.
If your qualification and experience profile line up with even one of these 31 rows, the competition for that specific post is likely to be much narrower than a typical open graduate-level TNPSC exam — because the eligible pool itself is small by design.
The Written Exam Structure — and a Gate Most Summaries Skip
Selection runs Written Exam → Interview. The written exam has two papers: Paper I (Part A – Tamil Eligibility Test, Part B – General Studies, Part C – Aptitude and Mental Ability) and Paper II, which is your subject-specific technical paper tied to the post you’ve chosen. For English and Tamil Reporter posts specifically, Paper II is a stenography paper at Diploma standard instead of a subject paper.
Here’s the detail that trips candidates up: Parts B and C of Paper I, and the whole of Paper II, are only evaluated if you first score at least 40% (60 marks) in Part A — the Tamil Eligibility Test. Score below that threshold in Part A, and the rest of your paper doesn’t even get marked, regardless of how well you might have done on the General Studies, Aptitude, or subject-specific sections. This isn’t a minor formality tucked into fine print — it’s a hard sequential gate, and it’s worth taking as seriously as the subject paper itself, especially for candidates who might be stronger in English-medium subject content than in Tamil.
After the written stage, TNPSC does onscreen certificate verification first, then calls candidates for physical certificate verification and interview at a ratio of roughly 1:3 or 1:4 for most posts, expanding to 1:10 for posts with an experience requirement — a wider funnel presumably because fewer candidates clear the tighter experience-based eligibility to begin with. The interview evaluates personality, bearing, and technical knowledge, and final merit combines Part B + Part C of Paper I, Paper II, and Interview marks out of a total of 510.
Fee — Per Subject Paper, Not Per Application
- One Time Registration (OTR): Rs. 150, valid 5 years, only if you haven’t registered before
- Examination fee: Rs. 200 per subject paper
- Each additional subject paper: another Rs. 200
If you’re eligible for and interested in more than one post that requires a different subject paper, your fee scales with each paper you add — this isn’t a flat one-time exam fee covering everything. Fee exemptions exist for SC, SC(A), ST, BC, PWD, Destitute Widow, and Ex-Servicemen candidates per Annexure II, but once paid, fees aren’t refunded even if you later withdraw from a subject paper.
Age — Post by Post, Not One Number
Baseline minimum is 21 years as on 1 July 2026 for every post. Maximum age is where things fragment: it ranges anywhere from 32 to 47 years for the “Others” category depending on the specific post, and several posts — several AGM-level roles, Assistant Secretary, Deputy Manager, Senior Officer, Accounts Officer, System Analyst, and similar — carry no upper age ceiling at all, other than the general below-60 requirement. Reserved categories (SC/SC(A)/ST/MBC-DC/BC(OBCM)/BCM) get similarly variable treatment; for Assistant Manager-type SIPCOT posts specifically, the ceiling sits at 34 years for BC(OBCM)/BCM/MBC-DC and 37 for SC/SC(A)/ST. There’s no shortcut here — check the age table against your exact target post code in the notification rather than assuming a single number applies across the board.
