Category-wise Total Slots Overview |
Category I — Graduate Engineering Apprentices (Corporation-wise) |
| Mechanical/Automobile Engineering alone accounts for 360 of 457 Category I slots (~79%) — a direct reflection of a bus-fleet operator’s core maintenance need, while CSE/IT slots exist only at Villupuram.

Category II — Diploma Engineering Apprentices (Corporation-wise) |
| MTC Chennai (138) and TNSTC Kumbakonam (123) alone hold nearly 60% of all Category II slots — Diploma holders targeting a strong shot at this drive should weigh these two corporations first. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Category III — Non-Engineering Graduate Apprentices (Corporation-wise) |
| TNSTC Salem does not appear in the Category III breakup at all — it offers no non-engineering graduate slots this cycle, unlike every other participating corporation. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Monthly Stipend Structure |
| Note this stipend is identical for Category I (Engineering) and Category III (Non-Engineering) Graduates — the pay difference in this scheme is driven purely by degree level (Graduate vs Diploma), not by subject stream.

Eligibility Criteria by Category |
| Note: only Category I explicitly demands First Class as a stated eligibility floor — Categories II and III have no equivalent minimum-percentage clause mentioned, though marks still matter directly for shortlisting (see Selection Procedure below).

Reservation Policy |
| Reservation for SC / ST / OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / PwD candidates follows the standard guidelines under the Apprentices Act. A valid Government-format category certificate is mandatory to claim reservation — BC/MBC candidates specifically need the approved OBC(NCL) certificate format. Failure to provide the correct certificate means the claim is automatically treated as “General” category, regardless of the candidate’s actual community. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Selection Procedure & Shortlisting Logic |
| If % of marks is not entered on the NATS portal, the application will not be considered at all — this single field is not optional despite how easy it is to overlook while uploading a provisional certificate/mark sheet.

Why This Apprenticeship Is Valuable for Fresh Graduates
Unlike regular recruitment drives that require competitive examinations, this apprenticeship focuses on practical training and industry exposure. During the one-year training period, apprentices gain hands-on experience in transport operations, engineering maintenance, fleet management, administration, and public service systems. This practical exposure strengthens a candidate’s resume and improves employability in both government and private sectors after the apprenticeship.
How the Transport Sector Is Creating New Opportunities
Tamil Nadu operates one of India’s largest public road transport systems, serving millions of passengers every day. With expanding bus fleets, digital ticketing systems, electric vehicle adoption, and modernization of workshops, transport corporations require skilled technical and administrative manpower. Apprenticeship programmes help bridge the gap between academic education and real workplace requirements while preparing candidates for future employment.
Why Apprenticeships Matter More Than Classroom Learning
Many graduates complete their degrees with limited industrial exposure. Apprenticeship training provides an opportunity to work with experienced professionals, understand workplace discipline, develop communication skills, and learn modern operational practices. These practical skills often become a major advantage during future job interviews and recruitment processes.
Career Opportunities After Completing the Apprenticeship
Although the notification clearly states that apprenticeship training does not guarantee permanent employment, candidates who successfully complete the programme gain valuable experience recognized under the Apprenticeship Act. This experience can strengthen applications for future PSU recruitments, transport departments, automobile companies, manufacturing industries, logistics firms, and other engineering or administrative organizations.
Growing Demand for Mechanical and Automobile Engineers
The vacancy distribution shows that Mechanical and Automobile Engineering account for the majority of engineering apprenticeship positions. This reflects the increasing demand for professionals capable of maintaining large public transport fleets, managing vehicle diagnostics, supporting preventive maintenance, and contributing to the modernization of transport infrastructure.
Digital Recruitment Is Becoming the New Standard
The recruitment process is conducted entirely through the NATS portal, from registration to application and shortlisting. This digital-first approach improves transparency, speeds up candidate verification, and minimizes paperwork. Candidates should ensure that their academic details, percentage/CGPA, and uploaded documents are accurate, as incorrect information may affect shortlisting.
Expert Insight: Make the Most of the Training Period
Candidates selected for the apprenticeship should treat the programme as a professional learning opportunity rather than just a one-year stipend-based engagement. Building technical skills, learning workplace software, understanding transport operations, and networking with experienced professionals can significantly improve future career prospects. Many employers value practical apprenticeship experience when hiring fresh graduates for technical and administrative roles.
