Important: Exam Dates Were Changed — Here Is the Short Story

Many students were confused because the Semester 3 exam routine was changed more than once. As per education news reports:

  • The first routine said the exam would run from 21 September to 7 October 2026.
  • The exam dates were then moved because of the 6 October bypolls, and the last papers were rescheduled to 12, 13 and 14 October 2026.
  • The routine was also revised again in September because of Vishwakarma Puja and madrasa closures.
  • Final result: the exams ran from 21 September to 14 October 2026, and the answer key came out on the last day.
Note: According to a news report, more than 7.18 lakh students appeared on Day 1 of the Semester 3 exam.

How to Raise an Objection Against the Answer Key (Step by Step)

The council has said that any student who wants to challenge an answer key can submit a challenge petition online with the required fee. Challenged answers will be checked by subject experts appointed by the council.

  • Wait for 27 October 2026. The objection facility will not open before this date
  • Visit the official website wbchse.wb.gov.in
  • Open the link for the online challenge of Semester III answer key
  • Follow the instructions shown on the portal and enter the details asked
  • Select the subject and the question number you want to challenge
  • Write your reason clearly and, if allowed, attach a proof (for example a textbook page)
  • Pay the fee of ₹200 per question per subject online
  • Save or print the acknowledgement / receipt after submission
  • Do all this before 30 October 2026. Late requests will not be accepted

What Does ‘₹200 Per Question Per Subject’ Mean? (Simple Example)

  • If you challenge 1 question in Physics, you pay ₹200.
  • If you challenge 3 questions in Physics, you pay 3 × ₹200 = ₹600.
  • If you challenge 2 questions in Physics and 1 question in Chemistry, you pay 3 × ₹200 = ₹600.
  • So always count how many questions you are challenging in total before you pay.

Which Answers Should You Challenge? Smart Tips

  • Challenge only when you are very sure that the key is wrong. Do not challenge just because you are in doubt
  • Check your question set / code first. A wrong set is the most common reason for a mismatch
  • Keep a proof ready: textbook line, page number, or a simple explanation. Experts check facts, not feelings
  • If a question has a printing mistake or more than one correct option, write it clearly in your objection
  • Do not pay for many questions together without checking. Fees add up quickly
  • Ask your teacher to look at your doubtful question once before you submit

How to Calculate Your Expected Marks Using the Answer Key

Semester 3 papers are objective type and are answered on OMR sheets, as per news reports. So you can estimate your marks quite closely.

  • Take your question paper and the downloaded answer key for the same subject and same set
  • Match each answer one by one and mark the correct ones
  • Count the total number of correct answers
  • Multiply with the marks given for each question (check this in your question paper)
  • If your paper has negative marking, subtract it as per the paper instructions. Do not assume any rule without checking the paper
  • Write your estimated marks for each subject and keep them as a rough guide only

Subjects for Which Answer Keys Are Available

The council has published the answer key for all subjects of Semester III in one notification. Education portals have also made subject pages for the subjects below. If your subject is not listed here, please open the official PDF and search for it.

What Is the HS Semester System? (Quick Explanation for New Students)

In West Bengal, the Higher Secondary course is divided into four semesters. Class 11 has Semester I and Semester II. Class 12 has Semester III and Semester IV. The marks of Semester 3 will be added to your final HS result, so this exam is very important.

After Semester 3, the next steps are the HS Practical and Project exams (January to February 2027) and the Semester 4 theory exams (February 2027). The final HS result is expected around May 2027 as per media reports.

  • Step 1: Download the answer key and check your answers now
  • Step 2: Decide if you want to challenge any answer
  • Step 3: Submit objections online between 27 and 30 October 2026
  • Step 4: Subject experts check the challenges
  • Step 5: WBCHSE publishes the final answer key
  • Step 6: Semester 3 result is prepared as per the final answer key
  • Step 7: Start preparing for practical, project and Semester 4 exams

Common Mistakes Students Make With Answer Keys

  • Checking the answer key of the wrong set or wrong subject
  • Believing the unofficial key from coaching centres or YouTube more than the council’s key
  • Missing the last date (30 October 2026) for objections
  • Challenging a question without any proof
  • Forgetting to save the payment receipt after submitting an objection
  • Sharing fake links or paying money to unknown websites. Always use wbchse.wb.gov.in
