BSF Head Constable RO RM Syllabus 2026: Subject-Wise Topics, Exam Pattern & 12-Day Study Plan

The Border Security Force (BSF) will hold the Computer-Based Test (CBT) for Head Constable (Radio Operator) and Head Constable (Radio Mechanic) on 2 November 2026. The exam is only about 12 days away, so every candidate now needs one thing: a clear and correct syllabus. In this post we explain the full subject-wise syllabus, exam pattern, marking scheme, weightage, selection process, physical test standards and a simple day-by-day plan for the last days.

Physics carries the highest marks in this exam, so the syllabus is a little different from many other constable exams. Read the weightage section carefully and plan your time in the right order.

BSF HC RO RM Exam Pattern 2026

Subject Questions Marks Weightage
Physics 40 80 40%
Mathematics 20 40 20%
Chemistry 20 40 20%
English and General Knowledge 20 40 20%
Total 100 200 100%
  • Each question has 2 marks
  • The whole paper must be finished in 120 minutes, which is about 1 minute 12 seconds for each question
  • English and General Knowledge are given together as one section of 20 questions. A separate question count for English alone is not given in the published pattern

Marking Scheme and Score Formula

Particulars Marks
Correct answer +2
Wrong answer -0.25
Question not attempted 0

Score = (Correct Answers × 2) – (Wrong Answers × 0.25)

Example 1: 70 correct and 20 wrong gives 140 – 5 = 135 marks.

Example 2: 60 correct and 40 wrong gives 120 – 10 = 110 marks. You can see that the penalty is small, so a sensible guess on a question where you can remove two options is not very risky. Blind guessing on everything is still not a good idea.

BSF Head Constable RO RM Subject-Wise Syllabus 2026

The topics below are taken from the published syllabus coverage. Some topics in Physics look very advanced, but the exam level is said to be 10+2. So first finish your Class 11 and Class 12 chapters and then touch the extra topics.

Physics Syllabus (40 Questions | 80 Marks)

  • Electronics
  • Atomic Physics
  • Relativity
  • Molecular Physics
  • Quantum Theory and Its Applications
  • Thermodynamics
  • Experimental Physics
  • Statistical Mechanics
  • Nuclear and Particle Physics
  • Mathematical Methods

How to prepare: Physics is 40 percent of the paper, so give it the most time. Start with the basics you already know from Class 11 and 12: electronics (diodes, transistors, logic gates), atoms and nuclei, heat and thermodynamics, and modern physics. Learn formulas with units, and solve numerical questions daily. For Radio Operator and Radio Mechanic jobs, electronics and communication basics are very useful.

Mathematics Syllabus (20 Questions | 40 Marks)

  • Complex Numbers
  • Statistics
  • Differentiation
  • Quadratic Equations
  • Trigonometry
  • Matrices
  • Geometry
  • Applications of Derivatives
  • Circles
  • Probability
  • Sets and Set Theory
  • Permutations and Combinations
  • Vectors
  • Limits and Continuity
  • Logarithms
  • Sequences and Series
  • Binomial Theorem

How to prepare: Make a one-page formula sheet for each chapter. Start with the easier and scoring chapters: sets, logarithms, quadratic equations, trigonometry, probability and permutations. Then do matrices, vectors, limits and derivatives. Practise with a timer, because you have only about one minute for each question.

Chemistry Syllabus (20 Questions | 40 Marks)

  • General Organic Chemistry
  • Hydrocarbons
  • Alcohols, Phenols and Ketones
  • Carboxylic Acids
  • Biomolecules
  • Environmental Chemistry
  • Chemistry in Everyday Life

How to prepare: Chemistry is the most scoring subject if you revise NCERT well. Many questions are direct and factual, for example about periodic trends, name reactions, types of bonds and biomolecules. Revise the short notes at the end of each NCERT chapter, and keep the organic reactions in a small chart.

English Syllabus (Part of the 20-Question English and GK Section)

  • Error Correction and Spotting Errors
  • Active and Passive Voice
  • Spelling Test
  • Sentence Transformation
  • Paragraph Completion
  • Joining Sentences
  • Sentence Improvement
  • Idioms and Phrases
  • Synonyms and Antonyms
  • Sentence Rearrangement
  • Fill in the Blanks
  • Prepositions

How to prepare: Revise basic grammar rules first: tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles and prepositions. Learn 10 new words and 5 idioms each day. Solve one set of error-spotting questions daily.

General Knowledge Syllabus (Part of the 20-Question English and GK Section)

  • Current Affairs and Geopolitical Developments
  • Indian Independence Movement
  • Books and Authors
  • Awards
  • Defence and Defence Current Affairs
  • Countries, Capitals and Currencies
  • Culture, Dances, Heritage and Arts
  • Common Names, Full Forms and Abbreviations
  • Soils and Rivers
  • Diseases and Nutrition
  • Important National Facts

How to prepare: Read the last 3 to 4 months of current affairs, with a special focus on defence news, such as new exercises, missiles, ships and agreements. Revise static GK from short notes. This section is small, so do not spend more than 15 percent of your time on it.

Which Subject Should You Study First? – Priority Guide

Priority Subject Why
1 Physics Highest weightage: 80 marks out of 200
2 Chemistry Easy to score with NCERT and takes less time
3 Mathematics Needs practice, but formulas are fixed
4 English and GK Only 40 marks, but easy marks if you revise daily
Note: This priority order is our study advice based on the marks given for each subject. You can change it as per your own strong and weak areas.

Best Study Material for BSF HC RO RM Preparation

  • NCERT books of Class 11 and 12: Physics, Chemistry and Maths. They are the first and most important books for this exam
  • Previous year question papers: Solve the papers of earlier BSF Head Constable RO RM exams to understand the type of questions
  • Grammar book: Any simple English grammar book for error spotting, voice and idioms
  • Current affairs: A monthly magazine or a daily newspaper, with a stress on defence news
  • Online mock tests: Choose tests that follow the same pattern: 100 questions, 120 minutes and negative marking
  • Short notes: Make your own notes. Notes written by you are the fastest way to revise

How to Use Mock Tests in the Last 12 Days

  • Take your first full mock on Day 3 to know your starting level
  • After every mock, spend double the time on analysis. Write down each wrong question, the reason and the right method
  • Check which type of mistake you make most: calculation mistake, concept gap or careless reading
  • Track your time in each section. If Physics takes more than 55 minutes, practise faster numerical methods
  • Take the last mock two days before the exam and do not take a new test on the day before the exam
  • Do not panic about a low score in the first mocks. The aim is to improve step by step

12-Day Last-Minute Study Plan (21 October to 1 November)

Day Plan
Day 1 – 2 Physics: Electronics, Atomic and Nuclear Physics, Thermodynamics. Chemistry: Periodic table and Chemical bonding
Day 3 – 4 Physics: Modern physics and Mathematical methods. Maths: Sets, Logarithms, Quadratic equations, Sequences

How to Manage 120 Minutes in the CBT

  • Spend about 50 minutes on Physics (40 questions), about 25 minutes each on Maths and Chemistry, and about 15 minutes on English and GK. Keep 5 minutes for review
  • First attempt the questions you are sure about. Mark the long numerical questions for review and come back later
  • Do not spend more than 2 minutes on one question
  • Use the elimination method. If you can remove two options, a guess has a good chance
  • Check your answers and the number of unattempted questions in the last 5 minutes

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Starting new advanced topics in the last week instead of revising the basics
  • Skipping Physics numericals and only reading theory
  • Not giving any full mock tests before the real exam
  • Marking many answers by guessing and losing marks
  • Ignoring English and GK because the marks look small
  • Not checking the admit card for the correct exam centre and shift

Exam Day Checklist

  • Printed admit card and original photo ID
  • Reach the centre at least 1 hour before the reporting time
  • Radio Operator exam is in the morning shift (9:00 AM) and Radio Mechanic exam is in the afternoon shift (1:00 PM), so confirm your post and shift on the admit card
  • No mobile phone, smart watch or calculator inside the hall
  • Eat light and carry water if allowed
  • Read all instructions on the computer screen before you start
