What Does the Seat Matrix Tell Us? – Simple Numbers
|
| Seat Type |
Number of Seats |
Share of Total |
| Government colleges |
1,095 |
About 27.6% |
| Private colleges |
2,866 |
About 72.4% |
| Total (tentative) |
3,961 |
100% |
|
- About 7 out of every 10 seats in this Round 1 matrix are in private colleges
- Government seats are fewer, so the competition for them is higher
- There are 6,084 candidates for 3,961 seats, which means about 1.5 candidates for each seat. This is only a rough number, because not every candidate will fill choices or join
- The matrix is tentative. DGME can change it, so check for updates until the last date
|

|
Smart Strategy for Choice Filling
|
- Fill as many choices as you truly want. A long list does not reduce your chance. The system gives you the highest choice that your merit allows
- Keep dream choices on top and add realistic and safe choices below them
- Decide your priority: branch first or college first. Arrange the list the same way
- Check fees and bond rules for every government and private option before you add it
- Compare the seat matrix with your merit position. Seats in the matrix are limited in each branch and category
- Do not wait for the last day. The portal can be slow in the last hours
- Lock only when you are sure. Take a screenshot of the locked list
|
| Note: Please note that a seat can bring a service bond and a fee depending on the college. Read the official counselling policy before you finalise your choices. |
Registration Fee and Security Money – What to Know
|
- You need to pay a non-refundable registration fee and a refundable security money, as per counselling guides
- Education portals report the registration fee in the range of about Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3,000
- Security money is reported as about Rs. 30,000 for government seats and about Rs. 2,00,000 for private seats
- Security money must be paid before choice filling. If it is not paid, you cannot fill choices
- Security money is returned after counselling ends, as per the rules. Use your own bank account when you pay, so that the refund is easy
- Keep your payment receipts safe
Amounts are as reported by education portals and may differ for a particular year. Please confirm them in the official notice.
|
Documents to Keep Ready
|
- NEET PG 2026 scorecard and admit card
- MBBS degree or provisional certificate and internship completion certificate
- NMC or State Medical Council registration certificate

- Uttar Pradesh domicile certificate, if needed for your seat category
- Registration fee and security money payment receipts
- Photo ID and passport-size photographs
- Allotment letter, after the Round 1 result
The exact list of documents is given in the official brochure and notices. Read them once before the admission day.

|
Who Is This Counselling For? – Basic Eligibility Points
|
- Candidates who have qualified NEET PG 2026 and have registered on upneet.gov.in
- The counselling covers the 50% state quota seats for MD, MS, Diploma and DNB courses, as reported by medical news portals
- Candidates must have valid NMC or State Medical Council registration, as per the counselling rules
- A Uttar Pradesh domicile certificate may be needed for some seat categories
- Only candidates who completed registration, fee and security money steps can fill choices
Reports say a Government Order dated 23 July 2026 sets the UP counselling policy, including eligibility, fees, reservation, rounds, free exit and penalty rules. Please read the official order or brochure for exact details.
|
Counselling Rounds – What to Expect After Round 1
|
- UP PG counselling runs in more than one round. Education portals mention Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and later mop-up and stray vacancy rounds, but the exact number can change every year
- Seats that remain empty or are left by candidates return to the pool and are offered in later rounds
- The registration fee for later rounds can be different, as reported by some portals
- Do not assume the dates of the next round. DGME announces them on the official website
- Read the rules about free exit, upgrade and penalty before you accept a seat
|
Understanding State Merit Position vs NEET PG Rank
|
- NEET PG rank: Your all-India position from the NEET PG result
- UP state merit position: Your position in the UP list, made by DGME for state quota counselling
- Seat allotment in UP counselling depends on your state merit position, your category and your locked choices
- When you read old closing ranks of colleges, always use the state numbers for UP counselling and not all-India numbers
|
How to Study the Seat Matrix Before Choosing – Simple Example
|
| Step |
What to Do |
| Step 1 |
Open the tentative seat matrix and find your branch (for example Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics) |
| Step 2 |
Count how many seats the branch has in government and private colleges |
| Step 3 |
Look at the number of seats in your category. Few seats mean a tougher competition |
| Step 4 |
Compare your merit position with the number of candidates who are likely to want the same seats |
| Step 5 |
Prepare a list of 10 to 15 or more choices, in order, with at least a few safer options |
| Step 6 |
Check fee and bond rules of each college and remove choices that you will not accept |
|
|
Example: If a branch has only 5 government seats in your category, many top-merit candidates may want them. In that case, keep a few private or less-demanded options lower in your list as a backup.
|
Service Bond and Fee – Do Not Ignore These
|
- Some government seats may carry a service bond with a penalty if you leave the seat or do not serve as required
- News reports of earlier years have mentioned a large bond amount for UP government seats, so please read this year’s rules carefully
- Private colleges have higher fees. Check the yearly fee and other charges before you add them to your list
- Keep in mind your stipend, hostel and living costs in the city
This point is a general caution. The exact bond and fee are given in the official policy and college details.
|
Questions to Ask Before Locking Your Choices
|
- Do I want the branch more than the college, or the college more than the branch?
- Can I pay the fee and the security money without stress?
- Am I ready for the service bond, if the seat has one?
- Have I kept some safe choices at the bottom of my list?
- Did I check the seat matrix of my own category?
- Have I taken a screenshot after locking?
|
Admission Day Checklist (3 to 7 November)
|
- Printout of the allotment letter
- All original documents and 2 sets of photocopies
- Fee and security money receipts
- Passport-size photographs
- Money or online payment method for the admission fee, as asked in the letter
- Reach the college early in the day. Do not leave the admission for the last day
- Keep a family member or friend informed about the college address and timing
|
If You Do Not Get a Seat in Round 1
|
- Do not lose hope. More rounds are held and seats may return to the pool
- Check the rules about registering again or paying extra fee for later rounds
- Keep your documents, security money receipt and login details safe
- Think about other states and MCC counselling if you are eligible
- Take advice from seniors or doctors who recently went through counselling
|
Common Mistakes to Avoid
|
- Not paying the security money before choice filling
- Choosing colleges without checking the seat matrix
- Filling too few choices
- Leaving the locking to the last hour
- Forgetting to lock after saving the choices
- Opening the wrong merit list (for example the DNB list instead of the MD/MS/Diploma list)
- Ignoring bond and fee details
- Missing the reporting dates after allotment
