Selection Process — Simple Explanation
- There is no written exam or interview mentioned in the notification. Selection is merit based
- ITI Trade Apprentices: Selected on the percentage of marks in the ITI qualifying exam
- Graduate Apprentices: Selected on the marks in the Bachelor’s degree
- If your university has its own CGPA to percentage rule, that rule will be used
- If there is no such rule, CGPA or grade × 10 is taken as the percentage
- If only semester-wise marks are given, the average of semester percentages is used. For year-wise marks, the average of year percentages is used
- If two or more candidates have the same percentage at the cut-off, the older candidate (by date of birth) gets preference
- You may be asked for a certificate from your university showing the equivalent percentage, if you have CGPA / OGPA

How to Choose the Right Trade or Discipline
- Pick only the trade or discipline that matches your ITI trade or your degree. A mismatch can cancel your application
- Trades with more slots (Fitter 125, Electrician 125, Welder 120, Mechanic Motor Vehicle 110, Wireman 110) give a better chance, but they also have more applicants
- Small trades like Mechanic (Diesel) with 5 slots or B.Pharm with 3 slots have very few seats, so only the top-mark candidates will get them
- Computer Science (93 slots), BBA (72), Commerce (70) and Nursing (36) are the biggest graduate groups
- Think about your career goal. Training in a power plant or mine environment is very good for technical trades and gives real work experience
|
Smart Tips for a Strong Application
- Apply early. Do not wait for the last 2 days, because the website can become slow
- Check that your name, date of birth and marks match your certificates exactly
- Compress your files to the exact size limits before you start the form
- Merge your marksheets into one clear file where the notice asks for a merged file
- If your marks are in CGPA, get the percentage conversion certificate from your college early
- Use a valid mobile number and email that you check daily. NLC India may contact you there
- Take a screenshot or printout of the final submission for your record
|
After You Are Selected — What Next?
- Watch the NLC India website for the selection list (tentatively 23 November for ITI and 25 November for Graduate)
- Keep original documents ready for verification at joining
- Joining is tentatively on 27 November for ITI and 2 December for Graduate apprentices
- You will get a stipend every month during the 12-month training, as per the notice
- Follow safety rules and work discipline strictly. NLC India works in mines and power plants where safety is very important
- Use the year to learn as much as you can, build contacts and prepare for other government and PSU exams
|
What Is an Apprenticeship? A Simple Explanation
- An apprenticeship is paid on-the-job training. You learn real work in a company, and you get a monthly stipend
- It is run under the Apprentices Act, 1961, so the rules about age, stipend and training are fixed by law
- You are a trainee, not a regular employee. You do not get regular salary, promotion or job security from the company
- At the end, you get an apprenticeship certificate, which is valuable for private and government jobs
- In many public sector units, having an apprenticeship certificate from the same company can help in some recruitments, but this is decided separately by each recruitment notice
|
