How the Marks Are Calculated — Simple Explanation
- Phase 1: This is only a screening test. Its marks are not added to the final merit total
- Phase 2: Three papers of 100 marks each — total 300
- Interview: The difference between the two maximums (375 − 300) shows that the interview carries 75 marks
- Final score: Phase 2 marks + Interview marks = out of 375
- Candidates are first shortlisted for the interview using the Phase 2 cut-off (out of 300). After the interview, final merit is made using the combined score
- The cut-offs are different for each category: General, EWS, OBC, SC and ST
|
How to Read Your Own Result
- If your Phase 2 marks were above your category’s Phase 2 cut-off: You were eligible for the interview stage
- If your total (Phase 2 + Interview) was equal to or above your category’s final cut-off: You were in the selected range, subject to the final recommendation by RBI
- If your Phase 2 marks were below the cut-off: You were not shortlisted for the interview. Use your paper-wise marks to see which paper pulled you down
- Compare category with category: A General candidate should compare with the General/UR cut-off, and an OBC candidate with the OBC cut-off
- Remember that cut-offs change every year. Use this year’s numbers only as a guide
|
Score Analysis — Where Can You Improve?
- Paper I — Economic and Social Issues: If your marks were low, spend more time on Indian economy, social issues, current affairs and RBI and government reports
- Paper II — English (Writing Skills): Practise essay, précis and comprehension writing. Focus on clear structure, correct grammar and a good word limit
- Paper III — General Finance and Management: Revise banking, financial markets, regulation, finance concepts and basic management topics
- Note down your marks in each paper and set a target for each paper for the next attempt
- Use RBI previous papers, reports such as the Annual Report and the Report on Currency and Finance, and quality news sources
