About This Recruitment

North Western Railway (NWR), through the Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), Jaipur, has released Notice No. 04/2026 (NWR/AA) for the engagement of Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961, for the year 2026-27. A total of 2,008 training slots have been announced across various trades at Workshops/Units within NWR’s jurisdiction. Eligible candidates who have passed Class 10 along with an ITI trade certificate can apply online at rrcjaipur.in from 7 October 2026 to 6 November 2026, 23:59 Hrs.

Very Important: This is an apprenticeship (training) under the Apprentices Act, 1961 — it is NOT a job. Imparting training on the Railway does not give any right to a job on the Railway after training is completed. Candidates should apply with realistic expectations.

Important Note: Each unit’s slots are further broken down by trade and by category (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS), with separate reserved slots for PwBD and Ex-Servicemen, set out in detailed tables for each of the 8 units in the official notification. Since this breakdown runs to dozens of trade rows across 8 separate tables, candidates must check the official notification PDF for the exact trade-wise and category-wise slot count applicable to their chosen unit, since a candidate may select only a unit where a training slot exists for their specific ITI trade.

When the prescribed number of SC or ST candidates are not available, those reserved places may be filled by the other of the two (SC by ST, or vice versa); if still unfilled, by candidates not belonging to SC/ST. Similarly, unfilled OBC/EWS seats go to unreserved candidates. PwBD and Ex-Servicemen reserved seats are not separate or additional — they are already included within the total slots shown for each trade.

Application Fee

All Candidates (Except Below) ₹100/- (Non-Refundable)
SC / ST / PwBD / Women NIL

Note: Fee is paid online through the payment gateway integrated with the application, using Debit Card, Credit Card, or Internet Banking. No change/edit is allowed after fee payment, and transaction charges are borne by the candidate.

Selection Process 2026

Selection is based on a merit list prepared for all candidates, calculated as the simple average of the percentage of marks in Matriculation (minimum 50% aggregate) and the percentage of marks in ITI, for the trade in which apprenticeship is sought.

  • For Matriculation percentage, marks in ALL subjects are considered, not just one subject or group
  • For ITI percentage, marks mentioned in the provisional/final certificate are considered
  • If two candidates have equal marks, the older candidate is preferred; if date of birth is also equal, whoever passed Matriculation earlier is ranked first
  • The final merit list is prepared division/unit-wise, trade-wise, and community-wise, equal to the number of slots, in descending order of marks
  • Selected candidates are subject to verification of original testimonials and a medical certificate

Important: No centralised merit list is formed — each unit’s merit list is prepared separately, based only on candidates who applied for that specific unit. There is no written exam or interview.

Medical Fitness Requirements

Selected candidates must produce a medical certificate in the prescribed format, signed by a Government-authorised Gazetted Doctor not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon of a Central/State Hospital. Standards of fitness for Persons with Disability are specified separately, covering:

  • Locomotor Disability/Cerebral Palsy — Not less than 40% relevant disability
  • Hearing Impairment — Loss of 60 decibels or more in the better ear, including Deaf, Dumb, or Deaf & Dumb candidates
  • Other benchmark disability categories, as defined in the notification

Stipend & Training Details

Training period and stipend will be as per the extant rules and directives issued by the Railway Board from time to time — the official notice does not state a specific stipend amount. There is no hostel accommodation; selected candidates must make their own arrangements during training, as per the Apprentices Act, 1961, and will be released upon completion of training. Before commencing training, the selected candidate (or their guardian, if a minor) must enter into a Contract of Apprenticeship with the employer.

  • The decision of the Railway administration on eligibility, acceptance/rejection, and selection is final
  • Per the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, it is not obligatory for the employer to offer employment, nor for the apprentice to accept it, upon completion of training
  • Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidature
  • Candidates erroneously engaged despite not fulfilling eligibility will be summarily dismissed without notice at any stage

Why Consider This Apprenticeship?

  • A large number of training slots (2,008) across 8 units, giving ITI-qualified candidates a good chance of selection
  • No written exam or interview — selection is purely merit-based on your existing Matriculation and ITI marks
  • Low or no application fee (free for SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates)
  • Hands-on technical training in Indian Railways’ Workshops/Units, useful experience for future ITI-based government jobs (like RRB ALP/Technician or other PSU apprenticeships)
  • Keep in mind: this is training only, with no job guarantee — continue preparing for other ITI/Railway recruitment exams alongside this apprenticeship
