Preparation Plan — How to Prepare in 6 Weeks for 7 December

  • Weeks 1–2: Focus on shorthand. Practise daily dictation at 80, 100 and then 110+ words per minute. Transcribe carefully and count mistakes. Remember that 5% mistakes are the limit
  • Weeks 1–6 (daily 20 minutes): Typing practice on a computer. Aim for 40+ wpm with very few errors. Pay attention to capital letters and punctuation, as they count as half mistakes
  • Weeks 2–4: Read the provisions about the judiciary in the Constitution (Supreme Court, High Courts and subordinate courts), and read the Supreme Court Rules, 2013 for the 15-question section
  • Weeks 3–5: General English (grammar, vocabulary, comprehension), General Knowledge and current affairs, and basic computer operation topics (MS Office, internet, shortcuts)
  • Week 6: Take full objective mock tests of 100 questions in 90 minutes. Because there is no negative marking, attempt all questions
  • Practise legal and court-related vocabulary for shorthand, because passages for such tests may use formal and legal words
  • Keep your hands relaxed, use good-quality notebooks and pens, and practise on the same speed from audio dictation to be ready for the real exam

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying on the last day. Website traffic can cause problems, so apply early
  • Entering name or date of birth different from the Class X certificate
  • Uploading blurred or wrongly sized photo, signature or certificates
  • Choosing cities carelessly. You cannot change the city later
  • Ignoring the shorthand and typing speed requirement, even if you score well in the objective test
  • Forgetting to keep a copy of the application number and fee receipt
  • Giving a wrong or inactive email ID or mobile number, because all exam updates will come there

Important Warnings

  • Apply only through the official Supreme Court website www.sci.gov.in
  • Do not trust any person who says they can arrange selection for money. The Registry may prosecute and debar candidates who use unfair means
  • Keep checking the Recruitment section of the website for updates on the exam, answer key and admit card
  • This article is based on the official advertisement. If any rule is changed later, the new official notice will be final
