- If a PwBD seat remains unfilled for any reason, one UR post is kept vacant

Who Can Apply? Qualification and Experience Rules
| Point | Senior Assistant (ND0601) | Assistant (ND0401) |
| Education | Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or institution | Bachelor’s degree from a recognised institute or university |
| Experience | 3 years as Assistant or equivalent in Level 4 | 2 years as Junior Assistant or equivalent post |
| Where Experience Counts | Central or State Government, University, PSU, other Central or State autonomous bodies, or an equivalent pay package in a reputed private company or corporate bank | University, research establishment, Central or State Government, PSU, autonomous bodies, or an equivalent pay package in a reputed private company or corporate bank |
| Private Sector Condition | Company or bank must have minimum annual turnover of ₹200 crore or more | Company or bank must have minimum annual turnover of ₹200 crore or more |
| Skills | Computer applications, noting and drafting | Computer operations, and typing at 35 wpm in English or 30 wpm in Hindi |
| Upper Age Limit | 35 years | 32 years |
Both posts need experience, so a fresh graduate cannot apply. A candidate from a private firm must also prove that the employer has a turnover of at least ₹200 crore and that the pay package is equal to the post, so keep an employer certificate and salary proof ready before you start the form.
- You must have the required qualification and experience on the closing date of the application
- A candidate in service with the State or Central Government or a PSU must submit a No Objection Certificate from the employer at document verification or when asked. Failing this cancels the candidature
- Applications are accepted provisionally, and scrutiny of eligibility is done later. A wrong claim is detected at any stage and the candidature is cancelled
Age Relaxation Rules in Simple Words
- Age is counted on the closing date of the advertisement. Papers for age relaxation must be shown again at the written exam, interview, skill test or document verification, even if sent earlier
- SC, ST, OBC (Central List), PwBD and Ex-Servicemen get relaxation as per Central Government orders adopted by the University
- Government and similar employees: up to 5 years, or the number of completed years of regular service, whichever is less, if you have at least 3 years of regular service in the same or allied field in Government departments, statutory or autonomous bodies, universities, affiliated or constituent colleges of DU, or PSUs. Contract or daily wage service does not count as regular service
- DU departmental candidates: the upper age limit for direct recruits is not insisted upon for them
- DU contract, daily wage and ad hoc staff: a one-time exemption in the upper age limit for those already working in the University or its colleges with at least 1 year of service. This is only for people appointed directly by the University or its colleges, and not for project-based or outsourced staff
- Marks relaxation: an extra 5% relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks of the degree, wherever a percentage is prescribed, for SC, ST, OBC-NCL and PwBD candidates
- A reserved category candidate who applies as General gets no age relaxation and no cut-off relaxation. A reserved candidate who is eligible only because of age relaxation is considered only for the reserved seats of his or her own category
Pay Scale
| Post | Pay Level | Basic Pay Range (7th CPC Matrix) |
| Senior Assistant | Level 6 | ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400 |
| Assistant | Level 4 | ₹25,500 – ₹81,100 |
The advertisement says the posts carry the admissible scale plus admissible allowances, and it does not give a fixed in-hand figure.
Application Fee and a Special Exemption
| Category | Fee |
| General / Unreserved | ₹1,000 |
| OBC (NCL), EWS and Female | ₹800 |
| SC, ST and PwBD | ₹600 |
| Applicants of Advt. No. R&P/311/2024 dated 12.12.2024 (Senior Assistant and Assistant) | Exempted from the fee |
Anyone who applied for the Senior Assistant or Assistant posts under the earlier advertisement of 12 December 2024 pays no fee. That is a saving of ₹600 to ₹1,000, so check your old application number first.
- Applications that are incomplete or without the fee are rejected
- Fees once paid are not refunded under any circumstances
Selection Process — Three Stages Explained
| Stage | Nature | Marks | Role |
| Stage 1: Preliminary Test | MCQ, 100 questions, 2 hours 30 minutes | 200 | Only for shortlisting. No weight in the final merit |
| Stage 2: Main Examination | Descriptive, 2 hours | 200 | Merit is drawn on this exam |
| Stage 2: Skill Test | As decided by the evaluating experts | 100 | Qualifying. 50 marks needed |
- Merit is made only for shortlisted candidates who appear in both the Main Examination and the Skill Test
- All question papers will be in English and Hindi, and you can answer in either language, but you must use the same language in all stages
- Extra time of 20 minutes per hour is given to visually impaired and cerebral palsy candidates, and similarly placed PwBD candidates
- Calling a candidate to the Skill Test or interview depends on eligibility and document verification, and mere appearing or qualifying in the test is not enough
Preliminary Test — Pattern and How Shortlisting Works
| Section | Questions | Marks |
| General Knowledge / General Studies | 20 | 40 |
| Reasoning | 20 | 40 |
| General Mathematical Ability | 20 | 40 |
| Administration / Functioning of Higher Educational Institutions | 40 | 80 |
| Total | 100 | 200 |
- All questions are compulsory, and each question carries 2 marks
- Negative marking is 0.5 mark for every wrong answer
- The cut-off is 50% of the average score of the top 5% candidates who appeared. If the top 5% is fewer than 2 candidates, the average of the top 2 candidates is used
- The cut-off is relaxed by 5% marks for SC and ST candidates and by 10% for PwBD candidates
- Candidates who score exactly the cut-off are also shortlisted
How Many Candidates Reach the Main Exam?
For one post, 30 applications are shortlisted. For every extra post, 15 more are added. So the number is 30 + 15 × (posts − 1).
| Post | Posts | Shortlisting by the Formula |
| Senior Assistant | 46 | 30 + 15 × 45 = 705 |
| Assistant | 80 | 30 + 15 × 79 = 1,215 |
If the formula is applied to all posts of each post code, about 705 candidates for Senior Assistant and about 1,215 for Assistant reach the Main Examination, which is roughly 15 candidates per post. The cut-off depends on the top scorers, not on a fixed mark, so a hard paper lowers the cut-off and an easy paper raises it.
Time per question is 90 seconds (150 minutes for 100 questions). Because 40 of the 100 questions (80 marks) come from higher education administration, this section alone has as much weight as the GK, reasoning and maths sections together.
Main Examination and Skill Test
| Feature | Details |
| Type | Descriptive |
| Marks | 200 |
| Duration | 2 hours |
| Topics | Educational Administration and Management; Functional aspects of Rules and their application in Higher Educational Institutions |
Skill Test (100 Marks, Qualifying: 50 Marks)
| Senior Assistant | Assistant |
| Management of administrative units of the University | Understanding of Manual of Office Procedures |
| Understanding of Manual of Office Procedures | Noting and drafting |
| Knowledge of Information Technology | Proficiency in computer operations |
| Noting and drafting | English typing at 35 wpm or Hindi typing at 30 wpm |
Special Marks for DU Contract, Ad Hoc and Temporary Staff
- Employees working on contract, ad hoc or temporary basis in the University and its colleges get 1 extra mark for each year of service, up to 10 marks, in the Preliminary Test for shortlisting, if it is held
- The same 1 mark per year up to 10 marks is added to the Main Examination score for the final merit list
- This applies to employees in such service as on 25 March 2021
For a long-serving contract employee, 10 marks out of 200 is a 5% boost in the main merit. When many candidates are close, this can change the rank by a lot.

Mistakes to Avoid
- Applying without the required years of experience, because the form can be rejected at any stage
- Using a private-sector experience from a company whose turnover is below ₹200 crore, or without pay proof
- Using an OBC or EWS certificate issued before 1 April 2026
- Applying as General and then expecting age or cut-off relaxation
- Skipping the descriptive practice, because merit is decided only on the Main Examination
- Changing the language between the Preliminary Test, Main Examination and Skill Test
- Forgetting to use the fee exemption if you applied under the 2024 advertisement
