INI CET January 2027 Exam Pattern – Easy Table

Particulars Details
Mode Computer-Based Test
Total Questions 200 objective questions (MD/MS)
Parts / Blocks 4 blocks of 50 questions each
Total Time 3 hours (180 minutes)
Time for Each Block 45 minutes, with sectional timing
Marking +1 for a correct answer
Negative Marking -1/3 mark for a wrong answer
Unanswered Question No marks, no penalty
Maximum Marks 200
Note: Different websites report small differences (for example, one portal says the MDS paper has 90 questions). Please confirm the final pattern for your course in the official information bulletin.

How Sectional Timing Works

  • The 200 questions are divided into 4 blocks of 50 questions
  • Each block has its own time of about 45 minutes, as reported by exam portals
  • You can usually move only within the block you are in, and you cannot take time from one block and use it in another
  • When the time of a block ends, the screen moves to the next block
  • So you must finish and review each block inside its own time

Simple meaning: About 54 seconds are available for each question (45 minutes ÷ 50). Keep a steady speed from the first question.

Marking Scheme Explained with Examples

Score = (Correct answers × 1) – (Wrong answers × 1/3)

Example 1: 140 correct, 30 wrong and 30 not answered gives 140 – 10 = 130 marks.

Example 2: 150 correct and 50 wrong gives 150 – 16.67 = 133.33 marks.

What you learn from this: Every wrong answer costs one-third of a mark, so three wrong answers cancel one correct answer. Guess only when you can remove at least one or two options.

Question Types You May See

  • Single best answer MCQs (most questions)
  • Clinical vignette (case based) questions
  • Image or investigation based questions
  • Multiple-correct answer questions, as reported by some exam portals
  • Reason and assertion type questions
  • Match-the-following type questions

The exact types can vary from session to session. Practise a mix of all types.

Syllabus – What to Revise in the Last Days

Group Subjects
Pre-clinical Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry
Para-clinical Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine (PSM)
Clinical Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Anaesthesia

Tip: Clinical subjects carry a large part of the paper, so revise high-yield topics, standard guidelines and recent updates. Do not start new books now.

Last 6 Days Plan (26 October to 31 October)

Day Plan
26 Oct Download the admit card. Check all details and the centre address. Take a full mock test
27 Oct Revise Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynaecology high-yield notes. Solve image-based questions
28 Oct Revise Paediatrics, Pharmacology, Pathology and Microbiology short notes
29 Oct Revise Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and Community Medicine. Solve previous year questions
30 Oct Take one more timed mock with 4 blocks of 45 minutes. Study only your mistakes
31 Oct Light revision, pack documents, reach the city and sleep early

Smart Strategy for the 4 Blocks

  • Answer the easy and direct questions first in every block
  • Do not spend more than about 1 minute on one question
  • Mark doubtful questions for review and return only if time is left in the same block
  • Keep the last 5 minutes of every block for review
  • Do not change an answer in the last seconds unless you are sure
  • Keep calm. The paper is hard for everyone and the rank depends on relative performance

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Waiting until the last evening to download the hall ticket
  • Selecting the wrong session while logging in
  • Forgetting the original ID proof
  • Reaching the centre late
  • Guessing too many questions and losing marks to negative marking
  • Spending too long on one block and running out of time
  • Studying new topics on the last day instead of revising

Health and Mind Tips for Exam Week

  • Sleep 7 to 8 hours every night
