What Is This Recruitment? (In Simple Words)

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have released the full notice for CEN 06/2026, the NTPC Graduate recruitment, on 6 October 2026. The online form opens on 8 October 2026, which is today, and closes on 6 November 2026 at 11:59 PM.

What does “NTPC” mean here? It stands for Non-Technical Popular Categories. These are railway jobs that do not need an engineering or ITI background — any graduate can apply. Think of station-level, goods-train, ticketing, accounts, and clerical work that keeps the railway running day to day.

One number to be careful about: you may see 3,477 vacancies mentioned in some places. That figure came from the earlier “indicative” notice. The full notice lists 3,548 posts across the four jobs, and the post-wise and category-wise totals both add up to 3,548. So use 3,548. All numbers are still tentative and can go up, go down, or even become nil.

Important Dates

  • Indicative Notice in Employment News: 26 September 2026
  • Full Notification (CEN 06/2026): 6 October 2026
  • Online Application Starts: 8 October 2026
  • Last Date to Apply Online: 6 November 2026, 11:59 PM
  • Last Date for Fee Payment: 8 November 2026
  • Form Correction Window (₹250 fee): 9 November – 18 November 2026
  • CBT, Document Verification and Medical Exam Dates: To be announced on the RRB websites

Good to know: the exam city slip usually comes about 10 days before the CBT, and the e-call letter about 4 days before. Neither is sent by post.

Vacancy Details — Post Wise

Post Posts | Pay Level | Initial Pay | Medical Standard
Goods Train Manager 2,750 | Level 5 | ₹29,200 | A-2
Senior Clerk cum Typist 371 | Level 5 | ₹29,200 | C-2
Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist 300 | Level 5 | ₹29,200 | C-2
Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor 127 | Level 6 | ₹35,400 | B-2
Total 3,548
Simple Note: Goods Train Manager alone is about 77% of all the posts (2,750 out of 3,548). It is also the post with the strictest eye-sight rule (A-2), so read the medical section below before choosing it.

Vacancy Details — Category Wise (All RRBs)

Category Vacancies
UR 1,517
OBC-NCL 873
SC 553
EWS 305
ST 300
Total 3,548
Within these numbers, 351 posts are reserved for Ex-Servicemen. For persons with benchmark disabilities, there are 25 posts for Visually Impaired, 18 for Locomotor Disability, 16 for Hearing Impaired, and 6 for Multiple Disabilities.

Vacancy Details — RRB Wise

Very important: You can apply to only one RRB. Pick it carefully, because the vacancies and the cut-off are different for each RRB.

RRB Vacancies
RRB Bilaspur 542
RRB Ranchi 377
RRB Bengaluru 346
RRB Kolkata 332
RRB Ajmer 304
RRB Siliguri 291

RRB Ahmedabad 19
Simple tip: A big RRB like Bilaspur (542 posts) has far more seats than a small one like Ahmedabad (19 posts). But more seats also means more people may apply there. Check how many posts your own RRB has before you decide.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • For all four posts, you need a graduation degree (any subject) from a recognised university, or an equal qualification
  • You must already hold the degree on 6 November 2026, the closing date
  • If you are still waiting for your final result, do not apply — you will not be eligible

Age Limit (As on 1 January 2027)

The age limit is 18 to 33 years for all posts. In date-of-birth terms (both dates included):

UR and EWS 2 January 1994 and 1 January 2009

Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women (not remarried) Up to 35 years (UR/EWS), 38 (OBC-NCL), 40 (SC/ST)
Please note: If you qualify for relaxation on more than one ground, you get only the highest single relaxation. They are not added together. Also, SC, ST and OBC candidates who apply against UR vacancies get no age relaxation.

Medical Standards — Check This Before You Pick a Post

Railway jobs, especially ones linked to train movement, have strict eye-sight rules. Each post has its own medical standard:

Post Standard | Vision Requirement
Goods Train Manager A-2 | Distant vision 6/9, 6/9 without glasses; near vision Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses. Must pass colour, binocular, night and myopic vision tests
Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor B-2 | Distant vision 6/9, 6/12 with or without glasses (lens power up to 4D); near vision Sn 0.6, 0.6
Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist C-2 | Distant vision 6/12, nil with or without glasses; near vision Sn 0.6 combined
Senior Clerk cum Typist C-2 | Distant vision 6/12, nil with or without glasses; near vision Sn 0.6 combined
Important: Candidates who had Lasik or any other surgery to correct eye-sight are not eligible for A-2 posts like Goods Train Manager. If you are found medically unfit for the post you chose, you will not get any other post as a replacement.

PwBD Suitability — Which Posts Are Open

Post Suitability
Goods Train Manager Not open to PwBD candidates
Senior Clerk cum Typist Suitable for blind and low vision candidates
Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist Suitable for low vision candidates
Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor Suitable for certain hearing and locomotor disabilities, but not visual impairment
For the exact sub-categories, please check Annexure A of the official CEN.

Selection Process — Step by Step

  • Stage 1 — First Stage CBT (CBT 1): A screening test. Its marks are used only to shortlist candidates for CBT 2 and are not added to the final merit
  • Stage 2 — Second Stage CBT (CBT 2): The main merit-deciding test. For posts without a separate skill test, your CBT 2 score is what decides your rank
  • Stage 3 — Document Verification (DV): Your original certificates are checked
  • Stage 4 — Medical Examination: You must meet the medical standard of the post you chose

Good news for the two Typist posts: the notice says the Computer Based Typing Skill Test has been dispensed with for Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist. Typing skill will be checked after joining instead.

Exam Pattern — What to Expect (Based on Recent NTPC Cycles)

The detailed exam dates and the final pattern will be confirmed by the RRBs. Based on how the recent NTPC graduate exams have been run, you can expect this:

Section CBT 1 Questions | CBT 2 Questions
Mathematics 30 | 35
General Intelligence & Reasoning 30 | 35
General Awareness 40 | 50
Total 100 questions (100 marks) | 120 questions (120 marks)
Time 90 minutes for each test
Negative Marking 1/3 mark for each wrong answer, in both tests
Please note: This pattern comes from recent NTPC cycles and exam-prep sources, not from the CEN 06/2026 notice itself. Always confirm the final pattern from the official RRB notice before your exam. One more thing to notice: CBT 2 has more questions (120) in the same 90 minutes — about 45 seconds per question. Speed matters.

Application Fee

The final fee is confirmed in the detailed CEN. Based on earlier RRB notices, the fee is expected to be like this, and a part or all of it is refunded to those who appear in CBT 1:

Category Fee | Refund After Appearing in CBT 1
UR / OBC / EWS ₹500 | ₹400 back (minus bank charges)
SC / ST / Ex-Servicemen / PwBD / Female / Transgender / Minorities / EBC ₹250 | ₹250 back (minus bank charges)
Fee is paid online. If you want to change something in your form later, a ₹250 fee applies during the correction window (9–18 November 2026).

Salary and Benefits

Post Pay Level | Initial Pay
Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor Level 6 | ₹35,400
Goods Train Manager Level 5 | ₹29,200
Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist Level 5 | ₹29,200
Senior Clerk cum Typist Level 5 | ₹29,200
On top of basic pay, railway employees get Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, medical benefits, and other admissible allowances, plus chances of promotion. So your in-hand salary will be higher than the basic figure shown here.

Aadhaar Check — Do This BEFORE You Apply

RRB wants your basic details verified through Aadhaar. Applications that are not Aadhaar-verified go through detailed checking at every stage, which can cause delay and trouble. To get verified smoothly:

  • Your name and date of birth in Aadhaar must match 100% with your 10th class certificate
  • Update your Aadhaar with your latest photo
  • Update your biometrics (fingerprints and iris)
  • Do all this before you start filling the online form

Simple tip: If your Aadhaar and your 10th certificate show your name or date of birth differently, start the correction now. Aadhaar updates can take some days, and the form closes on 6 November.

How to Apply Online — Step by Step

  • Go to the official apply portal: rrbapply.gov.in
  • Click “Create an Account” if you are new, or log in if you already have one
  • Enter your basic details and contact information carefully
  • Complete Aadhaar verification of your name and date of birth
  • Open the CEN 06/2026 NTPC Graduate application
  • Choose your RRB and your post preferences after checking you are eligible
  • Fill in your personal and education details
  • Upload your documents, photograph and signature
  • Pay the application fee online
  • Check everything once more, then submit
  • Save the final confirmation page

Keep ready before you start: degree certificate, category certificate (if any), photograph, signature, and an updated Aadhaar.

Simple Tips Before You Apply

  • Check your eyes before choosing Goods Train Manager: it has the strictest A-2 standard (6/9 vision without glasses), and anyone who had Lasik is not eligible. Over 2,700 posts are in this one job, so it is tempting — but a medical rejection at the end would waste your whole effort
  • Choose one RRB with care: you can only pick one, and the seats vary a lot from Bilaspur (542) to Ahmedabad (19). Think about where you are willing to live and work
  • Fix your Aadhaar first: a mismatch between Aadhaar and your 10th certificate is one of the most common reasons for trouble in railway forms
  • Do not wait for the last day: railway portals get very busy near the closing date. The form closes on 6 November, but you do not need to use all the days
  • Remember what your CBT 1 is for: it only screens you. Your final rank comes from CBT 2, so keep some energy for the harder second test
  • Practise speed, not just accuracy: with 1/3 negative marking and about 45 seconds per question in CBT 2, you need both
  • Keep your fee refund in mind: if you appear in CBT 1, you get part or all of your fee back (minus bank charges), as per earlier RRB rules
