SSC CGL Answer Key 2026 in Simple Words

SSC held the CGL Tier 1 exam on computers from 30 September to 30 October 2026. Now SSC has put the tentative answer key on its website. Every candidate can log in, see the questions, the answer he or she marked and the correct answer as per SSC, and calculate an expected score.

If you think an answer in the key is wrong, you can challenge it online by paying a fee for every question and uploading proof. SSC will study the challenges, then publish the final answer key and the Tier 1 result. The result is reported to come in the first week of December 2026, but SSC has not confirmed it.

This page explains how to download the key, how to count your marks, how normalisation can change the score, how to challenge a wrong answer in the right way, and what to expect next.

SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

Section Questions Maximum Marks
General Intelligence and Reasoning 25 50
General Awareness 25 50
Quantitative Aptitude 25 50
English Comprehension 25 50
TOTAL 100 200
Response Marks

  • Exam time is 60 minutes for most candidates. Candidates who are eligible for compensatory time get extra time as per the notice.
  • Each section has 25 questions and carries 50 marks.

How to Calculate Your SSC CGL Tier 1 Score

Formula: Estimated Marks = (Correct Answers x 2) – (Wrong Answers x 0.50). Unattempted questions give 0.

Correct Wrong Unattempted Estimated Marks (out of 200)
80 15 5 152.5
70 20 10 130
60 30 10 105
90 10 0 175
100 0 0 200
50 40 10 80
  • Step 1: Download your response sheet.
  • Step 2: Count the right, wrong and unattempted questions.
  • Step 3: Apply the formula.
  • Step 4: If you plan to challenge any question, calculate your marks again with the changed answer, so that you know whether it is worth the fee.
  • Step 5: Remember that this is a raw score. The final score may be normalised.

Note: The four examples of 80, 70, 60 and 90 correct answers are the same as in the FreeJobAlert report. The other two rows are our simple additions.

Normalisation – Why Raw Marks Can Change

  • The exam was held over about a month, in many shifts. Some shifts can have an easier paper and some a harder paper.
  • SSC uses a normalisation procedure where applicable, to make the scores fair.
  • So the raw score you calculate may be different from the normalised score used for the result.
  • Two candidates with the same raw marks can get different normalised marks if they sat in different shifts.
  • Wait for the official result and cutoff before you decide whether you will qualify for Tier 2.

How to Challenge a Wrong Answer – Step by Step

  1. Log in on the SSC portal with your registration number and password.
  2. Open your response sheet and look for the “Click Here to Challenge Question” option next to the question you want to challenge.
  3. Select the question ID and the option you believe is correct.
  4. Upload proof in PDF form, such as a page from a standard textbook or an authentic source.
  5. Pay the objection fee online. The fee is reported as Rs. 100 per question, non-refundable. Check the amount on the page.
  6. Submit the challenge before the closing date and time.
  7. Download and save the acknowledgement.
  • SSC accepts challenges only through the online facility. Do not send emails or letters.
  • A challenge without proper proof is unlikely to be accepted.
  • Challenge only the questions where you are sure and have proof, because the fee is paid for every question and is not refunded.
  • Cost example (our calculation): challenging 5 questions at Rs. 100 each costs Rs. 500. At Rs. 50 each it costs Rs. 250.
  • If you are not sure, do not challenge. Compare with your textbook first.

Note: Reports differ on the fee (Rs. 100 or Rs. 50). The CGL 2026 notice is reported to say Rs. 100 per question. Please read the amount on the objection page before you pay.

Rank Predictors and Unofficial Estimates – Use with Care

  • Several websites offer rank predictors where you can upload your response sheet or answer key link.
  • These tools give only an estimate of marks, rank and percentile. They cannot know the final normalised scores or the cutoff.
  • Do not decide to stop preparing for Tier 2 because of a predictor result.
  • Never enter your SSC password on any website other than ssc.gov.in.

What Happens After the Answer Key?

  • SSC reviews the challenges and publishes the final answer key.
  • The Tier 1 result and cutoff marks come after that. A report says it is expected in the first week of December 2026, but SSC has not confirmed it.
  • Candidates who qualify are called for Tier 2. Tier 2 is tentatively planned for December 2026 or January 2027, as reported.
  • Total vacancies are 10,731 as per a revised figure reported from 24 September 2026. Please check the SSC notice.
  • Keep your response sheet, question paper and challenge acknowledgement until the final result.
